RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Titans defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders in the 12th inning 1-0 in the final game of the opening conference series. The Titans bring their overall winning record to 19-16 and are now 2-1 in the Big West Conference, while UC Riverside falls to 19-13 and 1-2 in Big West.
Delynn Rippy, the lead-off hitter, went three for five at bat in the final game of the series. To bring in Emily Randall for the run to win the game, Rippy singled up the middle for the RBI and increasing her SLG and on base percentage for the game to .600.
Lexi Gonzalez went two for four with a single in the top of the fourth inning and a base hit up the middle in the top of the eleventh inning to advance Rippy to third base. Gonzalez increased her ERA percentage to .327 and has 98 at-bats, third on the team for most at-bats so far this season.
In the top of the twelfth inning, Emily Randall singled to third base and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, then again to third base from another wild pitch. With Rippy's base hit, Randall advanced home for the Titan's winning run.
Pitcher Cerissa Rivera (4-1) tallied another win by pitching all 12 innings with zero runs on 12 hits and eight strikeouts. For the weekend, Rivera pitched 19 innings with 18 strikeouts, three walks, and zero earned runs. Tayler Misfeldt (8-2) took the lost for the Highlanders with one run on eight hits and five strikeouts.
The Titans will play again on Saturday, April 8 for a Big West Conference doubleheader against Cal Poly with games at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the Anderson Family Field.
