Titans Sweep LMU in Three-Game Series

Los Angeles, Calif. – The Titans finished their three-game series at Loyola Marymount Friday afternoon 3-0. Cal State Fullerton won the first game of the series on Thursday afternoon 4-2. The Titans won both games of the doubleheader 9-5 and the second game 3-0.

Game One

Mikaela Francis hit a home run to right field in the top of the second inning to kick off the double header. Loyola Marymount scored in one run in the third inning to tie the game.

Kylie Padilla doubled in the top of the fourth for the second time in two days. Whitmore came in the game to pinch run for Padilla and then Delynn Rippy and Samantha Vandiver got on base with walks. Alexis Gonzalez hit a grand slam to bat Rippy and Vandiver to take the lead for the Titans.

The Lions responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Kylie Padilla the hit a single to get on base followed by Megan Estacio reaching first on an error. Samantha Vandiver then singled for two RBI. Vandiver was then batted in by Mikaela Francis, who went 3-3 at bat, from a double to bring the score to 8-5.

In the seventh inning, Bryanna Ybarra lined out to center field, but still batted in Brooke Clemetson for the Titans final run and the 9-5 win.

Starting pitcher Trish Parks had five strikeouts in the first game and Sydney Golden (2-4) took her second win of the series with one run on eight hits and two strikeouts. Rachel Farrington (3-7) received her third loss with four runs on seven hits, three earned, and one walk.

Game Two

To start the second game, Alexis Gonzalez singled to get on base and then stole second. Mikaela Francis doubled to bat in Gonzalez for the Titans' first run. In the bottom of the first inning, Cerissa Rivera started out with two strokes outs.

Samantha Vandiver singled in the top of the third, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alexis Gonzalez and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Mikaela Francis then doubled for her second RBI of the game to bring the score up 2-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, Kylie Padilla singled to get on base, Ariana Williams came in to pinch run for Padilla and stole second and third base. Megan Estacio reached first on an error from the first baseman and scored in Williams for the third run.

Cerissa Rivera (2-1) took the win for the Titans with zero runs on three hits and set a career record of 11 strikeouts. Racheal Farrington (3-8) took the loss with three runs on five hits.

The Titans will play again in another double header on Saturday, April 1 at Riverside at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
