Fullerton, Calif- The Cal State Fullerton softball team's four-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday as the Titans fell to the Texas Longhorns in games two (10-1) and three (4-0) in the three-part series.
With the two losses, the Titans fall to 14-15 overall while Texas leaves with a 16-11 record.
Game One
The first two innings remained scoreless in the first game of the day. Texas took control offensively in the third by loading the bases and doubling for three RBI. The Longhorns scored two more runs in the inning with one unearned.
Kylie Padilla and Ariana Williams both put up singles in the third inning, but the Longhorns scored one run each in the fourth and fifth inning, and then doubled in two runners in the sixth.
Delynn Rippy hit a double in the bottom of the sixth inning, followed by a single from Samantha Vandiver to bat in Rippy for the Titan's only run.
Pitcher Trish Parks (3-4) took the loss by pitching two innings with four earned runs on three hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Longhorns' pitcher Tiarra Davis received the win with pitching five innings with three hits and seven strikeouts.
Game Two
Texas opened the second game of the day with three runs on three hits. Kelsey Kessler kept the Longhorns at bay until the fifth inning when Texas Taylor Ellsworth singled to get on base, and advanced to second on another base hit. Longhorns Kaitlyn Slack singled to bat in Ellsworth for the final Texas run.
In the bottom of the seventh, Shianne Brannan got on base with a single, but the Irieanna Siofele and Kylie Padilla both lined out for the final two outs.
Pitcher Kelsey Kessler (10-4) took the loss with pitching all seven innings with four runs on six hits and four strikeouts. Texas pitcher Erica Wright got the win for the Longhorns with only one hit and seven strikeouts.
The Titans will play again on Thursday, March 23 at Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m.
