Titans Fall to Boston and Harvard in Second Day of Tournament

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton softball team's two-game win streak came to an end on Friday as the Titans dropped two games to Boston University (5-4) and Harvard (2-1) on the second day of the Long Beach State/ Cal State Fullerton Tournament.

With the two losses, Fullerton falls to 10-13 overall and will face Longwood and Boston tomorrow in the final day of the tournament at 3/5:30 p.m. PT.

Game One (vs. Boston)

To open the game, the Terriers scored four runs to lead the Titans.  In the bottom of the first inning, Delynn Rippy doubled. Samantha Vandiver then singled and advanced Rippy to third base. Alexis Gonzalez then batted in Rippy for the Titans first run.

In the fourth inning, Shianne Brannan doubled while second at bat, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Bryanna Ybarra singled to bring in Brannan for Cal State Fullerton's second run.

Boston scored one more run in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Ariana Williams and Delynn Rippy both singled and then advanced to second and third from Samantha Vandiver's ground out. Alexis Gonzalez then doubled to bring in Rippy and Williams. Boston held on to the lead by only allowing two runs for the Titans and won the game 5-4.   

Makinna Akers took the win for Boston with two runs on six hits and Kali Magane with the save with two runs on three hits and two strikeouts. Sydney Golden took the loss for the Titans with five runs on six hits and one strikeout.

Game Two (vs. Harvard)

After a tough loss to Boston, the Titans fell short to Harvard in the first inning. Harvard opened the game with a single and then a home run by Erin Lockhart to bring in the two runs.

In the bottom of the first inning, Delynn Rippy led the Titans with a base hit, then stole second and advanced to third on an error from the catcher. Samanthan Vandiver then batted Rippy in for the Titan's only run.

Pitcher Taylor Cabe got the win for Harvard as she held the Titans to one run on five hits in five innings of work.  For Cal State Fullerton, Cerissa Rivera took the loss as she allowed two runs, all earned, on three hits over five innings.

The Titans will play again on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Longwood at Anderson Family Field.
