FULLERTON, Calif. – On day one of the Judi Garman Classic, the Cal State Fullerton softball team couldn't get anything going against No. 20 Arizona State as the Titans fell to the Sun Devils, 10-1, at Anderson Family Field on Thursday.
With the loss, the Titans move back under .500 at 8-9 overall this season and will face No. 14 Michigan tomorrow at 5 p.m. on day two of the Judi Garman Classic.
Starter Trish Parks looked solid after the first two frames as she collected four strikeouts but Sun Devil Breanna Macha kept pace with the sophomore by keeping Fullerton scoreless after two as well.
In the third, Parks surrendered a two-run homer to Chelsea Gonzalez which put Arizona State on the board first and a 2-0 lead after three.
The Sun Devils added on to their lead in the fourth with some impressive plate discipline as three walks and an infield single led to four runs and the Fullerton deficit was now 6-0 through four.
However, Parks got one back for the Titans in the fifth as the sophomore crushed a ball to straight-center for her first homer in a Fullerton uniform, cutting the deficit to 6-1.
Unfortunately, Sydney Golden and Cerissa Rivera couldn't keep the Arizona State lead at five as the Sun Devils put up another four spot in the sixth to extend their advantage to 10-1.
The Titans needed to score two in the bottom half to keep the game alive, but Fullerton went scoreless in the inning to fall by run-rule to Arizona State, 10-1.
Overall, the Titans scored one run on three hits and committed three errors on Thursday night against the Sun Devils. Parks finished with four innings pitched, four earned runs, four strikeouts and three walks while also hitting her first homer of the season.
Tomorrow, Fullerton faces another tough-test with a battle against No. 14 Michigan at 5 p.m. on day two of the Judi Garman Classic.
