Taukeiaho Named Big West Softball Player of the Week

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton senior third baseman Missy Taukeiaho collected her first Big West Conference Player of the Week honor this season – the fourth of her career – to open up league action.

Taukeiaho earned the honors after batting .625 with two home runs and seven RBIs in a series sweep against UC Riverside. She finished the week with a .571 on-base percentage and a 1.182 slugging percentage.

The product out of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., accounted for 13 of Cal State Fullerton's 23 runs in three wins over UCR. In addition to driving in seven runs, she scored six times in the series to help the Titans outscore the Highlanders 23-4.

Taukeiaho doubled and homered in CSF's 9-1 six-inning victory in the season opener. She hit a solo shot in the first inning and went on to finish the game batting 2-for-2 with two walks, three runs scored and two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Taukeiaho drilled a run-scoring double and scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the first frame as she helped lead the Titans to a 2-1 win.

In the final game of the series, Taukeiaho belted her first grand slam of the season to blow open the contest as the Titans won 12-2 in five innings. She finished the day 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Taukeiaho was named Big West Player of the Week, while Long Beach State's Christina Clermont was named pitcher of the week.

Taukeiaho and the Titans, which have won 19 of their last 23 games, return to action Saturday, April 9 at Cal Poly at 1 p.m.
