FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton (30-20, 8-7) softball team swept a doubleheader and the three-game series with Big West foe Cal Poly (22-27, 5-10) behind a complete game three-hitter from Cerissa Rivera in game one, 4-1, while the offense was powered by a four-run fifth and the first two-homer game of Melissa Sechrest's career to hold on for a 6-3 decision in the series finale at Anderson Family Field on Sunday afternoon.

Cal State Fullerton will continue conference play and travel to UC Davis for a doubleheader on Saturday, May 2 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., followed by the series finale on Sunday, May 3 at 12 p.m at La Rue Field in Davis, Calif.

GAME ONE: Cal State Fullerton 4, Cal Poly 1

Seven different Titans recorded a base-hit including a solo-homer from Courtney Rodriguez, while Missy Taukeiaho provided a two-run double in her return to the Titans' lineup and Cerissa Rivera (2-1) notched her second career victory in as many days to clinch the series over Cal Poly, 4-1 in game one of the doubleheader.

After picking up a win in yesterday's opener 5-4 over the Mustangs, Rivera made her second start and turned in the first complete game of her career with seven innings of work, scattering just three hits and one run. The right-hander from Westminster, Calif. showed superior control issuing one walk and fanned five Mustangs.

With a pitcher's duel through three innings, Rodriguez broke the tie in the fourth by muscling an opposite field round-tripper over the left-center fence to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

The Titans' bats continued to stay hot in the fifth frame as Paige Kisling led off with a pinch hit single. CSF freshman Samantha Vandiver sliced a one-out single to left to put two runners on board. After missing the previous three games due to injury, Taukeiaho stamped her return with a two-run double into the right-center gap to extend Fullerton's lead to 4-0.

With the Mustangs' offense stifled by Rivera's stellar pitching, the lone run of the game for Cal Poly came by way of a solo-homer from Chelsea Convissar.

Remarkably, Samantha Galarza, Kisling, Sarah Moore, Delynn Rippy, Rodriguez, Taukeiaho and Vandiver collected one hit apiece, respectively.

Hyland (17-17) suffered her second consecutive complete game loss of the series, tossing six innings and yielding four runs on seven hits.

GAME TWO: Cal State Fullerton 6, Cal Poly 3

Cal State Fullerton's Melissa Sechrest powered the offense with her first career two-homer game with solo-shots in the second and fourth innings, while the Titans capitalized on three Cal Poly errors and hung a four-run fifth to hold on for a 6-3 decision to complete the three-game sweep.

With a 2-0 lead following two long balls from Sechrest off Mustangs' starter Lindsey Chalmers (5-9), the crucial fifth inning was highlighted by a single from Courtney Rodriguez, two-run single by Samantha Galarza and a pinch hit RBI infield single from Gabrielle Rodas. Another run came across via fielding error, while two other errors surrendered by the Cal Poly defense gave the Titans two free bases that proved to be costly. When the messy inning was all said and done, the Titans extended their lead to 6-0.

The only pair of student-athletes on the roster from out-of-state, Arizona natives Sechrest (2-for-2) and Rodriguez (3-for-3) combined for a perfect 5-for-5 effort, scoring four times and collecting two RBIs. Galarza (1-for-3) drove in a pair of runs while Rodas (1-for-1) recorded one RBI in her only at-bat.

The Mustangs manufactured a final two-out rally in the seventh and chased Fullerton starter Christina Washington (15-6) out of the game after a solo-homer by Amanda Sandoval and a two-run long ball from Chelsea Convissar to close the gap to 6-3. Cerissa Rivera, who picked up the win earlier in the afternoon for the Titans, forced a pop out in foul territory to third baseman Missy Taukeiaho to tally the final out and seal the sweep.

Washington cruised through five innings, but the late three-run outburst by the Mustangs in the seventh inflated the left-hander's line to three runs on seven hits in six and 2/3 innings of work. Throwing strikes has been an issue with the entire pitching staff of late and Washington followed up Rivera's one walk performance in game one by not allowing a single free pass in the series finale. The native of Inglewood, Calif. also fanned three Mustangs.

Chalmers labored through four and 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits. Sierra Hyland entered in relief for the final one and 1/3, yielding an unearned run on two hits.

Game Notes: Sitting at 30-20, this is the first back-to-back 30-win seasons (2014 record: 33-21-1) for the Titans since the 2006 (37-27) and 2007 (38-23) campaigns…This was the first sweep over Cal Poly at home since the 2007 season…Fullerton now holds a 40-29 series record over the Mustangs, while being 6-4 on Sunday's and 19-8 at the friendly confines of Anderson Family Field…Rodriguez collected her team-high eighth three-hit game of the season… Vandiver extended her hitting-streak to a team-high seven games…Taukeiaho has now reached base for 22 consecutive contests...Sechrest scored a career-high three times in game two.
