FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton managed only two hits in game one versus Portland State losing 3-2 and couldn't overcome an early 8-0 deficit over Oregon State, eventually losing 9-5 in game two. Fullerton falls to 2-4 overall on the season, while Portland State improves to 3-4 and Oregon State moves to 4-3. The Titans play Brigham Young and Utah tomorrow at Stephanie Lynn Carter Park, with first pitch at 11:15 against the Cougars.

Portland State's Raya Johnson (1-0) tossed a complete game only giving up two runs off two hits. The Vikings struck first in the bottom of the second after an RBI double from Carly McEachran off Cal State Fullerton freshman Jasmine Antunez. The Titans answered with RBI groundout from freshman Samantha Galarza in the fourth inning tying the game at one apiece. With the game still tied in the sixth inning, sophomore Desiree Ybarra singled and moved to third after a wild pitch from Johnson and a groundout from senior Tiffany Sheffler.
The Titans then caught a break after Johnson threw another wild pitch allowing Ybarra to score from third, giving the Titans a 2-1 lead. The Titans lead didn't last very long as in the bottom of the sixth the Vikings answered back with two runs. The tying run came off an RBI double from Candice Orozco which tied the game at two. The Vikings took the lead and the eventual game winning run off an Alicia fine single which scored pinch runner Sandie Peterson from third.
Freshman Jasmine Antunez tossed 4 2/3 innings allowing one earned run off four hits and one walk. Antunez struck out three batters, but snapped her 17 inning streak of striking out at least one batter in every inning, after failing to do so in the second. Ybarra (0-1) recorded the loss and threw 1 1/3 of an inning giving up two runs, one earned.
The Titans struggled offensively at the plate only managing two hits, (Ybarra 1, Sheffler 1)., However, the Titans got base runners off six walks allowed by PSU's Johnson. The Vikings got seven hits, two apiece from Britney Hendrickson and Fine. Portland State goes to 3-4 on the season and still plays UNLV, BYU, Nevada, and California in the Easton Desert Classic.
Game 2 Oregon State 9, Cal State Fullerton 5
Trailing 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth with one out, and facing an eight-run mercy rule the Titans didn't go down without a fight, putting up five runs to continue the contest against Oregon State University. The Titan rally started off with a walk from freshman Samantha Galarz and a single by Ashley Carter. Tiffany Sheffler then got on base after an error from Oregon State pitcher Tina Andreana, which loaded the bases for the Titans. After a mound visit, the Titans got their first runs of the game after a two run double from Desiree Ybarra and a RBI single by Sechrest, which would score Sheffler. The Titan rally continued after another RBI single up the middle by Eliza Craword. After an RBI groundout from redshirt junior Ariel Tsuchiyam the Titans cut the Beaver lead to 8-5. Sophomore Carissa Turang struck out swinging for the final out of the inning to end the five run inning. The Beavers would add one more insurance run off Ally Kutz's RBI single in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 9-5.
The Beavers got out to an early lead off an RBI single from Natalie Hampton in the first inning and extended their lead in the top of the second to 5-0 after an RBI hit from Hannah Bouska and a sacrifice fly from Ally Kutz. The Titans also had an error, a wild pitch, and allowed two stolen bases in the inning.
The Beavers scored nine runs off 16 hits to take the victory over the Titans. Six Beavers had two hits as Natalie Hampton went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and Ally Kutz went 2-for2 with two RBI's. Desiree Beltran also belted a solo shot over the center field (2-for-3, RBI) for the Beavers.
Tina Andreana (1-1) tossed 4 1/3 innings giving up five runs, three unearned, while allowing six hits. Andreana was relieved by Amanda Najdek who stopped the Titan bats only giving up three hits and striking out three. In 2 2/3. Oregon State improves to 4-3 on the year and face BYU later today at Stephanie Lynn Carter field.
Senior Katey Laban (1-1) recorded the loss throwing four innings giving up eight runs, seven unearned, while allowing 11 hits. Ybarra relieved Laban in the fifth, tossing the final three innings only giving up an RBI single in the ninth to Kutz.
