FULLERTON, CA - Santa Clara's Kendall Doherty scored just over a minute into the second half and the Broncos' defense held off visiting Cal State Fullerton en route to a 1-0 victory in the championship match of the 2005 Santa Clara adidas Classic on Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara, Calif.

The loss snapped the Titans' four-match winning streak as Fullerton fell to 4-2 overall on the season. No. 6 Santa Clara improved to 4-0-1 overall on the year and won the tournament title after a 2-1 win over top-ranked Notre Dame on Friday.

In the 47th minute, Doherty took a pass from teammate Jordan Angeli and one-timed it past Fullerton goalkeeper Karen Bardsley for the lone goal of the match.

It was an agressive match that saw more fouls (27) than shots (23) with Fullerton outshooting Santa Clara, 14-9. Junior Lauryn Welch led all players with five shots on the afternoon.

The Broncos' goalkeeper tandem of Meagan McCray and Julie Ryder combined on the shutout, each making four saves.

Fullerton senior midfielder Lisa Kosena, who scored two goals in the win over Gonzaga on Friday, and senior Erica Pryor were named to the all-tournament team.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action next weekend, heading to Tucson, Ariz., for the Four Points University Plaza Arizona Classic. The Titans will take on New Mexico and Utah in the two-day event which also features host Arizona.
