FULLERTON, CA - Purdue's Liz Secue converted a penalty kick in the 30th minute to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the visiting Boilermakers to a 2-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday night to conclude day one of the 2010 Under Armour Invitational at Titan Stadium.

The victory pushed Purdue to 3-1-1 overall on the season while the Titans fell to 1-2 overall.

Secue's first goal of the year came after a teammate was shoved down in the box, sending the junior midfielder to the spot with just over 15 minutes remaining in the half. Secue sent her shot to the left side of the net past a diving Fullerton goalkeeper, giving the Boilermakers the lead for good.

Alexis Tryba put Purdue on the board first with an early strike in the eighth minute as a cross was headed back to the right side by teammate Katie Leinert. The pass found the feet of Tryba, who finished off the sequence with a shot back to the left post for the 1-0 lead on the Boilermakers' first shot of the match.

Sophomore Brisa Gonzalez rallied the Titans in the 21st minute, netting the equalizer from close range. Sophomore Jennifer Smith started the play with a floating kick into the box that narrowly missed the head of freshman teammate Nikki McCants, but found Gonzalez on the back post, who settled and poked the ball into the right side netting to tie the match.

Both teams played even in the second half with Fullerton pushing the pace with its three corners in the second period and an 8-4 advantage in that category overall. Purdue outshot the Titans, 10-5, for the match, putting seven of their 10 on frame. Tryba and Lauren Montenegro each had two shots for the Boilermakers while five different players accounted for Fullerton's shots on the night.

In the first match of the tournament earlier in the day, USC and No. 18 UNC Greensboro battled to a scoreless draw despite the Women of Troy holding a 17-6 advantage in the shot column - including all three shots taken by either team in the two overtime periods.

Shelby Church made two saves in recording the clean sheet for USC while Kelsey Kearney had three saves for the Spartans in turning away the Women of Troy offense.

Elizabeth Eddy had four shots for the Trojans to lead all players on the night while Kory Spotts finished with two shots to pace UNCG.

The teams will switch opponents for Sunday's (Sept. 5) final day as the tournament will open at 11 a.m. with USC taking on Purdue with the Titans and Spartans following at approximately 1:30 p.m.
