BERKELY, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans defeated the Cal Golden Bears 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Edwards Stadium.
It came down to one lucky bounce for either side and the Titans (2-3-3) were the beneficiaries of a handball inside the box in the second half against Cal.
Kaylin Raibon stepped up and scored the penalty for the Titans which was all the Titans needed to secure the win. Raibon is the Titans top scorer with 4 goals so far this season and has scored back-to-back game winners this week in wins over San Diego and Cal.
The Titans defense came up big multiple times with Mia Ranson leading the way with 7 saves for her third clean sheet of the season. Taya Townsell and Olivia Peraza both made multiple tackles inside and outside the box and were there to block multiple shot attempts from the Golden Bears.
The overall shot count favored Cal 17-to-11 but the Titans had one more shot on goal (8-to-7) and forced Cal's goalkeeper, Teagan Wy to make 7 saves.
The Titans had five shots in the first half with all five of them goal. In the second half, the Titans earned a penalty kick a little past midway through the half. After a throw in, there was a handball inside the box by the Cal Defender which the referee spotted right away. Kaylin Raibon stepped up to take the penalty for the Titans and easily buried it past the keeper.
The Titans will head back home for their final non-conference match when they host UNLV on Thursday night in a scheduled double-header with the men's team. Kick-off is set to begin at 5:00 pm for the match against the Rebels. The Titans will have a pregame ceremony to honor their seniors (Jesslyn McCave and Maddie Phantumabamrung) before the match.
