FULLERTON, CALIF. - The Cal State Fullerton Titans women's soccer team won their first game of the 2023 season over the University of San Diego on Thursday night at Titan Stadium after winning 1-0.
The Titans (1-3-3) had a season high with 31 shots for the game including 24 shots in the second half. This game entered the Titans record book as the 9th most shots the team had in a game. This was the most shots in a game under Head Coach Demian Brown since a 2011 double OT game against UC Riverside.
Mia Ranson picked up her second clean sheet of the season and made two saves for the game. Sophine Kevorkian was fantastic in net for the Toreros and made 14 saves for San Diego.
In the first half, the Titans had more opportunities but only 7 shots compared to USD 4 shots. However, in the second half the Titans offense had the San Diego defense on the backburner for almost the entire half. Kaylee Noble spearheaded the attack with 5 shots including 3 on goal.
The Titans took the lead in the 55th minute of the game. Kaylin Raibon nodded home her third goal of the year off a corner kick by Isabella Cruz.
The Titans thought they scored again in the 60th minute as Kaylee Noble had a low shot that the keeper couldn't make a full save on deflect off a USD defender into the net. But the linesman ruled it for offside after mistaking Makenna McGill for tapping the ball into the net.
The Titans will now head to Cal Berkeley on Sunday for their final non-conference road game of the year. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
