Titans Draw With Utah at Home

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Titans played to another draw on Sunday afternoon as they drew 2-2 with the University of Utah at Titan Stadium.

The Titans (0-3-3) played their best half of soccer all year as they took a 2-0 lead in the first half but the Utes (3-1-2) came back with two goals in the second half to steal the win away from the TItans.

The Titans had two players score their first career goals in a Titan uniform on Sunday.

Kaitlin Taylor scored her first goal in a Titan uniform in the eighth minute.  After missing a wide open header from close range on a cross from Kaylin Raibon, Taylor made amends for it right away a minute later.  Isabella Cruz stole the ball in the midfield and played a perfect pass to Taylor that the Utes defender missed.  Taylor shot it low from right outside the 18-yard box to the near post to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

The Titans continued pouring on shots on the Utes box and finally scored their second goal just before the half ended.  Jenae Perez was fouled just outside the penalty box to set up a free kick for Vanessa Buso.  Buso's low shot deflected off the Utah wall into the net to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

The Titans outshot the Utes (12-to-5) for the first half. However, it was a different story in the second half.  Utah outshot the Titans (12-to-4) in the second half and for the game it finished with a 17-to-16 shot advantage for Utes.

Utah scored in the 57th minute after Kelly Bullock got to a long ball first and Mia Ranson was too late to get to the ball and Bullock scored on an open net.   The Utes equalized on a very similar goal as Taliana Kaufusi beat the Titans defense to a long ball and Ranson was again caught in no man's land leaving an open net for Kaufusi.

Mia Ranson made her return to goal for the Titans after missing the previous game to illness.  She made five saves for the game.

The Titans homestand continues when they take on the University of San Diego on Thursday.  Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
