Day Named Defensive Player of the Year as Titans earn Six All-Big West Accolades

IRVINE, Calif. - The Big West Conference announced the 2022 women's soccer yearly honors and the Titans were represented by four different players.  The headliner was that Junior Megan Day was named Big West Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year.  Day was also given First Team All-Big West honors, three Titans were named to the second team, and one Titan was also named to the Big West All-Freshman team.

Megan Day was the fifth Titan to be named the Defensive Player of the Year and the first since Morgan Batcheller in 2015. The La Mirada native is also just the 11th Titan in program history to be a two-time First Team All-Big West honoree.  Day was previously named the Big West Freshman of the Year in 2019 and to the All-Big West First Team in 2019, and the All-Second Team in 2021.  Day was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Week (9/26) after scoring a brace against UC San Diego.  She anchored a backline that posted seven shutouts for the season. The Titans defense allowed just 8 goals in 10 conference games this season.

Kaytlin Brinkman, Samantha McKenna, and Mia Ranson garnered Second Team All-Big West accolades.

Senior forward Kaytlin Brinkman garnered All-Big West recognition for the first time in her career.  The Antioch native led the Titans with 11 points on five goals and one assist. She scored four of her goals in conference play and was named the Big West Player of the Week (10/10) after scoring a brace against UC Riverside.

Graduate midfielder Samantha McKenna earned All-Big West Second team honors.  The Lakeside native is tied for second on the team with 8 points on three goals and two assists.  Two of her goals have been game-winners including goals against UCSB (10/13) and CSU Bakersfield (10/27). McKenna has earned All-Big West recognition before when she was named to the All-Freshman team in 2017.

Redshirt Freshman Mia Ranson goalkeeper was named to the All-Big West Second Team and the All-Freshman team.  The Oxnard native led the conference with a .817 save percentage and was third in the conference with 85 saves.  She had the fourth lowest goals against average 1.062.  She was third in the conference with six shutouts. Ranson earned multiple weekly honors this year after being named Freshman Player of the Week (8/22) and the Defensive Player of the Week twice (8/29) and (9/5).

The Titans finished out the regular season with a 9-5-5 overall record and 6-2-2 record in conference play.  They drew the No. 3 seed in the Big West Championship and will begin play in the first round by hosting UC Irvine on Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
