NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – In an epic rematch against the No.1 seeded, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton came back with a vengeance. The Titans advance to the Big West Championship Tournament with the 2-1 win over the Anteaters.
In the 31st minute, Kaycee Hoover scored the game-winning goal off the ball from Atlanta Primus. Hoover now notches five goals for the season. Hoover earned the All-Conference Honorable Mention award earlier this week.
Atlanta Primus leads the Titans now with seven assists.
Maribell Morales lifted Fullerton to 2-0 in the 56th minute after intercepting the ball above the box.
"Really excited for our women to bounce back the way we did and dominate a game against a very good UC Irvine team is a tremendous step for us," said head coach Demian Brown.
Now we get ourselves ready for another Big West Conference Final and the opportunity to represent the Big West in the NCAA Tournament."
UC Irvine answered back in the 83rd minute with the goal coming from All-Freshmen Sydney Carr. However, it was not enough to keep Irvine in contention for the championship.
Fullerton dominated offensively. The Titans outscored the Anteaters 12-6 and out-cornered their opponent 8-1. Cal State Fullerton ranks 5th in the nation for corner kicks.
Cal State Fullerton will play the winner of the Cal State Northridge/ UC Riverside match on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. PT at Matador Stadium in Northridge, Calif.
