MORAGA, Calif. – At kick off the Titans (3-0-2) faced off against the Gaels (2-3-0) with the sun blaring down in 103-degree weather. Despite the scorching heat, Fullerton remained triumphant with a 3-0 win.
With her first goal of the season, Tala Haddad blasted the ball into the net with the assist from Sarah Fajnor in the eighth minute of play. Haddad also assisted on a goal by Atlanta Primus in the 34th minute to give the Titans a 2-0 lead. Primus has now scored in two back to back games. The final goal would come in the 56th minute and be a first for Sophia French who would capitalize on Samantha Koemans' corner kick with a header into the bottom left corner of the net.
"This was a total team effort. To be able to score early and then go very deep into our bench was exactly what we needed to do on this extremely hot day," said head coach Demian Brown. "Full credit to Nano Oronoz, and Morgan Bertsch for keeping us solid in the back and not giving anything away."
The Titans defense did remain dominant by only allowing the Gaels six overall shots. Bertsch (3-0-1) would collect her second shutout of the season and recorded three saves.
Offensively the Titans controlled the ball with 19 total shots. Sarah Fajnor would lead the game with six shots, two being on goal, and one assist. Once again Fullerton would out corner their opponent 9-3.
Jazzmin Mancilla also made her glorious return as a starter. Mancilla, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury last year against St. Mary's was a part of the starting 11 today in Moraga.
The Titans look to add on to their undefeated streak Sunday afternoon back at 5:00 p.m. PT against the University of Utah at home in Titan Stadium.
