Morales Named Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week

Big West Player of the Week Release

IRVINE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton junior Maribell Morales was named the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.

Morales becomes the first Titans player to earn the award this season after scoring a pair of game-winning goals this past weekend as Big West Conference play began.

Overall, Morales notched three goals in two matches including a pair in Sunday's 4-0 victory over Cal Poly. A transfer out of Iowa State, Morales entered this season with just two goals in 32 games through two seasons with the Cyclones. She surpassed that total in one weekend.

On Friday night, Morales made her first start of the season and played all 90 minutes. She netted the game-winning goal in the 74th minute, pouncing on a loose ball from 20 yards out and depositing the shot into the back of the net to give the Titans a 2-0 lead in a match they would win, 2-1, over UC Riverside.

Morales continued her stellar play on Sunday afternoon against Cal Poly, netting the first two goals against the Mustangs in a 4-0 win. Her first came on a free kick that rang in off the far post in the 27th minute. Six minutes later, she added an insurance goal with a low shot to the far post that beat the Mustangs keeper to make it 2-0.

The Titans midfielder scored three of the team's six goals this weekend, requiring only four shots to do it, good for a .750 shooting percentage.

Others nominated: Kendra Bonsall (Cal Poly); Taylor Hobson (CSUN); Jessica Vincent (Long Beach State); Rachel Ahr (UC Davis); Noel Baham (UC Irvine); Maddie Gibson (UC Santa Barbara); Tia Furuta (Hawai'i)
