IRVINE, Calif. - Recording Cal State Fullerton's first hat trick since 2012, senior forward Rebecca Wilson also provided both game-winning goals for the Titans to capture her second Big West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award this season.
Held mostly in check by a stingy UC Davis defense, Wilson broke through for the first of her two game-winning strikes in Friday's 1-0 win. Wilson latched onto Christina Burkenroad's through ball in the 64th minute, guiding her shot under the diving Aggie goalkeeper for her then league-leading 11th goal. The two teams had just five shots apiece for the match, with Wilson taking two of CSF's in front of a Titan Stadium record crowd of 1,617 fans.
Wilson exploded in Sunday's 4-0 shutout of Hawai'i as she had a foot in all four Titan scores, racking up three goals and an assist for the match. She became just the seventh player in program history to tally seven points in a match. The forward had markers in the 37th, 55th and 67th minutes to lift her goal total to 14, ranking her third all-time in Cal State Fullerton history, while leading the Big West this season.
Wilson's 2.46 points per game currently rank third in the nation and her 1.08 goals per game rank second in the country. Furthermore, she leads the country with seven game winners in 2015 – a number that is also a new Titan single-season record.
A native of Placentia, Calif., Wilson's 71 career points rank third all-time at Cal State Fullerton, and her 29 career goals rate third all-time as well. Wilson's 12 career game-winning goals tie for second at Cal State Fullerton.
Wilson's 32 points (14 goals, 4 assists) rank third in single-season history, and her 14 goals also rank third in single-season history. In addition, she is just the third Titan to record multiple seasons with at least 10 goals scored.
This is Wilson's fourth career Player of the Week award, matching Karen Bardsley and Kandace Wilson for the most in program history.
Long Beach State junior goalkeeper Ashton McKeown was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week.
