FULLERTON, Calif. – Rebecca Wilson split two defenders and directed her shot under the oncoming goalkeeper to score the game-winning goal as the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team shut out UC Davis, 1-0, at Titan Stadium on Friday night in front of 1,617 fans, setting a new attendance record.
The dynamic duo of senior midfielder Christina Burkenroad and Wilson connected on the goal as Burkenroad's through ball in the 64th minute split two central defenders with Wilson controlling the pass at the top of the box.
As UC Davis goalkeeper Alexis Smith came off her line, Wilson slotted her shot under a diving Smith as the league's leading goal scorer beat the conference's top goalkeeper.
Fullerton improved to 9-2-1 on the year and 1-1-0 in Big West Conference play, while the Aggies dropped to 8-4-2 and 1-1-1 in league.
With her third shutout of the year, Jennifer Stuart made two saves while Smith did not make a stop as Wilson's goal was Fullerton's only look on frame for the entire 90 minutes.
The crowd of 1,617 fans at Titan Stadium broke an attendance record for women's soccer at Cal State Fullerton, surpassing the previous record of 1,570 vs. Long Beach State on Oct. 19, 2001, also a 1-0 Titan win.
That was not the only record broken on Friday night as Wilson's sixth game-winning goal of the year is a new Titan single-season record.
Shots were even at five apiece, while Fullerton took two corners and held UCD without a corner kick.
Stuart is now 7-0-0 in goal on the season.
The Titans return to action at 5 p.m., Sunday playing Hawai'i at Titan Stadium.
