HONOLULU – Junior Rebecca Wilson scored two goals to spur the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Hawai'i in the Big West Conference opener for both teams at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

The Titans improve to 3-7-2 with the win and 1-0 in league play while the Rainbow Wahine fall to 5-6-0 and 0-1 in Big West action.

The comeback was completed in the 69th minute as the Hawai'i defense was whistled for a foul five feet outside the right side of the penalty box, setting up a free kick for CSF's Brianna Chapman. The senior drilled her service over the defense and found a wide open Wilson at the back post as the Placentia, Calif., native struck her header into the ground, and the bounce caught UH goalkeeper Erica Young off guard beating her to the corner as the Titans took a 2-1 lead.

It was also Wilson who evened the game for the Titans in the 31st minute as her header at the near post courtesy of Colleen Ortega's swerving corner beat Young.

Wilson leads the Titans with six goals, including scoring five in her last four games. Thursday's match was also Wilson's second two-goal game of the year.

For the 10th time this season, Cal State Fullerton found itself surrendering the game's first goal, but for the first time this year, the Titans were able to score the game winner after notching the equalizer.

Fullerton trailed 1-0 in the 13th minute after Kama Pascua of Hawai'i got to a loose ball in the box that the Titans had failed to clear. Near the top of the penalty box, Pascua fired to the top left corner of the goal, eluding Titan goalkeeper Jennifer Stuart and giving the Rainbow Wahine a 1-0 lead.

Stuart finished the game for Fullerton with a season-high nine saves.

It was the Titans who nearly took the lead in the fifth minute when Chelsey Patterson controlled a rebound at the top of box and fired high to the far post, but Young made the one-handed save, punching the attempt over the crossbar.

Fullerton also had a chance in the 42nd minute when freshman Tala Haddad was fouled right outside the penalty area, setting up a free kick for Morgan Batcheller, but her attempt fired just high and wide right.

In the 49th minute, Storm Kenui had a serious shot on goal for UH, firing her attempt off the crossbar. Nine minutes later, Pascua escaped several Titan defenders at the top of the box, as another attempt from Hawai'i smashed into the crossbar.

UH outshot Cal State Fullerton 20-10 and corners were even at six apiece.

The Titans return to action on Sunday with a noon kickoff at UC Davis.
