Palo Alto, Calif. – Stanford's Taylor Uhl scored on a rebound of her own-first half shot giving the 17th-ranked Cardinal a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament at Cagan Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif.

Fullerton ends its campaign with an 8-7-7 overall record, to go along with a Big West Conference Tournament title. The Cardinal, who improved to 14-5-1 overall, will meet South Carolina in the second round after the Gamecocks defeated Furman 5-0 in Columbia, S.C.

Stanford got on the board early, tallying the first goal in the 14th minute of the match. The lone goal of the game came off a left side cross from Courtney Verloo, which Uhl received and quickly fired a shot off the top of the crossbar. The shot rebounded back to the junior from Eden Praire, Minn., for a second chance which snuck past the Titan goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic for a 1-0 advantage.

Erica Mazeau nearly tied the match in the second half for the Titans after a low shot was saved by the fingertips of Stanford goalkeeper Jane Campbell. Fullerton's best chance came with a little more than four minutes left to play when freshmen Ali White barely missed the left post.

Maricic kept the Titans in the game making ten saves on the night, including seven in the second half. Mazeau finished with three shots to lead the Titans while Uhl had six shots on the night to lead the Cardinal. Stanford held the advantage in shots 21-6 and corner kicks, 7-2. Colleen Ortega and Christina Burkenroad also added shots.
