Big West Tournament

IRVINE, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton trio of Morgan Batcheller, Lindsey Maricic and Erica Mazeau were named to the Big West Conference First Team, it was announced by the league on Tuesday evening.

Maricic became the third Titan to be named Big West Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the conference in saves (87), save percentage (.870) and goals against average (0.70). The senior owns a 5-6-5 overall record with five shutouts and has 14 for her career at Fullerton as the Titans begin play in the Big West Conference Tournament on Thursday. The native of Alta Loma, Calif., recorded the second-highest single-game saves total in Titan history when she stopped 15 shots against Pepperdine on Sept. 27.

A senior, Maricic became only the third keeper to eclipse the 200-save plateau for a career. Her 228 career saves rank behind only Laura Janke's 235 stops from 2000-03 and Karen Bardsley's school-record 312 saves from 2002-06 on the all-time list.

Erica Mazeau is first Titan to be named Midfielder of the Year since Stacey Thompson in 2007. Mazeau capped off the regular season with four goals and six assists for 14 points. While controlling the midfield, the senior started all 19 contests and recorded at least one point in eight of her last 11 appearances. Mazeau's six assists are tied for top honors in the Big West, one year after finishing in a tie for second with seven helpers.

A native of Yorba Linda, Calif., Mazeau's 14 career assists rank eighth all-time at Fullerton. In addition, the senior has produced the game-winning assist on three occasions in 2013, and six times in her career, which ties for second all-time at Cal State Fullerton.

Batcheller, just a sophomore has started all 19 games in 2013, and has helped anchor a Titan defense that leads the Big West in goals allowed (14) and goals against average (0.68) while also totaling seven shutouts. In addition, the Carlsbad, Calif., native, scored Fullerton's goal in a 2-1 victory at USC and added a score against Cal State Northridge.
Elise Krieghoff (Cal Poly) was named the Big West Offensive Player of the Year and Zoya Farzaneh (UC Irvine) was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Year. Nat Gonzalez of UC Riverside was named the Big West Coach of the Year and Mimi Rangek (Long Beach State) took home Freshman of the Year honors.

Junior midfielder Chelsey Patterson was named to the Big West second team, and has started in all 19 matches this year for Cal State Fullerton while also serving as team captain. The Anaheim, Calif., native scored a goal vs. Gonzaga earlier this year.

Senior defender Kellie Bohner received honorable mention accolades, playing in 15 matches this season, while freshman Jazzmin Mancilla was named to the all-freshman team.

The Titans return to action on Thursday, hosting the Big West Conference Tournament. No. 2 seed UC Irvine will play No. 3 seed UC Riverside at 5:00 p.m., while No. 4 Cal State will host No. 1 Cal Poly at 7:30 p.m.
