KICK OFF: Winners of three-straight and seven of its last eight contests to close out the regular season, the 2012 Big West Champion Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team (10-8 overall, 7-2 in the Big West) begins its postseason run this week, taking the top seed to South Orange County for the 2012 Big West Tournament hosted by UC Irvine. The Titans and No. 4-seeded Anteaters square off in the second semifinal on Thursday (Nov. 1) at approximately 7:30 p.m., with the winner meeting either No. 2 seed Cal State Northridge or No. 3 seed Cal Poly on Sunday (Nov. 4) at 1 p.m. for the tournament title and NCAA posteseason berth. Sunday's championship match will be televised on FOX Sports PrimeTicket.
IN THE POLLS: None of the four teams are ranked nationally entering this week's event.

TITANS CLAIM BIG WEST TITLE: All the pieces fell into place over the weekend for the Titans as Cal State Fullerton picked up its sixth Big West Conference regular season title in school history (1996, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2012) with its 4-1 victory over Pacific to close out the regular season. The championship is the program's fifth in the last 12 years, and the second under Head Coach Demian Brown (2007, 2012), while also serving as the school's fourth solo crown after the Titans shared the top spot in both 2004 and 2007.
TITANS TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Cal State Fullerton is making its seventh appearance in the Big West Conference Tournament, but its first since 2007... the Titans have won three league tournament titles, all coming in back-to-back-to-back seasons from 2005-07... Fullerton is 5-3-1 all-time in the Big West's postseason event, going 3-3 in the semifinal round and an unbeaten 2-0-1 in championship matches... the Titans are 1-0 against UC Irvine in the tournament, posting a 2-1 double-overtime win in 2007... Cal Poly is Fullerton's nemesis in the tournament, going just 1-3-1 against the Mustangs in five all-time meetings... the Titans and Cal State Northridge have never met in the Big West Tournament... Fullerton is unbeaten in its last six Big West Tournament matches (5-0-1), last posting a win and draw at the 2007 event, defeating Cal Poly in penalty kicks after 110 minutes of scoreless soccer to earn the league's automatic NCAA berth... Cal State Fullerton is the only school in the history of the conference to win three consecutive Big West Tournament titles.
WEST NAMED BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cal State Fullerton junior midfielder Janali West was named the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after an offensive barrage against Pacific over the weekend clinched the 2012 Big West regular season title for the Titans. The weekly award is the first of West's career and she becomes the third Fullerton player to be so honored this season, joining Ann Marie Tangorra (Offense) on Sept. 10 and goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic (Defensive) on Oct. 8. After being held to without a shot against UC Davis, West exploded for a natural hat trick in the second half of a 4-1 victory over Pacific to clinch the crown, scoring three goals in a 24-minute span to put the game away. She scored in the 53rd, 59th, and 77th minutes for her first three goals of the season -- the second of which standing as the eventual game-winner. West, who also earned conference player of the week honors from College Sports Madness, put all five of her shots on frame against the Tigers while recording only the 16th hat trick in the history of the program -- the first since Tangorra's three-point game against North Texas on Sept. 18, 2011.
#4 UC IRVINE BRIEFLY: The Anteaters enter the week with a 9-8-3 overall record and a 5-1-3 mark in Big West play to finish fourth... UCI is unbeaten in its last six contests (3-0-3), finishing off the regular season with a pair of scoreless draws against Cal State Northridge and Hawaii at home... North Carolina transfer Rachel Wood leads the team in scoring with five goals and 11 points this season while Natalia Ledezma (3 goals, 5 assists) and Laura McGrail (five goals) also finished the regular season with double-digit points... Corey Tobin (5-2-3 overall, 0.95 GAA, 15 saves) and Jennifer Randazzo (4-6, 1.70 GAA, 26 saves) have split time in net this season.
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH THE ANTEATERS: Fullerton is 10-7-3 all-time against UC Irvine, but the Anteaters are unbeaten in their last four (3-0-1) against the Titans, extending their winning streak to three in the series with a 3-1 win at Titan Stadium earlier this season... Fullerton, which had won nine-straight in the series from 2001-08, is 5-3-1 all-time against UCI at Anteater Stadium... five of the last seven games have been decided by a single goal.
#2 CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE BRIEFLY: The Matadors enter the tournament with a 9-4-6 overall record and a 6-1-2 mark in conference play to match Cal Poly for second place, but Northridge gained the No. 2 seed based on the goal differential tiebreaker after the Matadors and Mustangs battled to a 2-2 draw on Oct. 12... Northridge is unbeaten in its last seven matches (5-0-2) dating back to its 1-0 overtime loss to Fullerton on Oct. 5, posting a scoreless draw against UC Irvine and beating Long Beach State, 1-0, in double overtime last weekend... the Matadors have played nine overtime matches this season, going 1-2-6 in those contests... Melissa Fernandez leads the team in scoring with six goals, five assists, and 17 points... Cynthia Jacobo has played all but 90 minutes this season, posting a 0.51 goals against average (10 goals allowed) and 96 saves to go with nine shutouts.
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH THE MATADORS: Fullerton is 11-5 all-time against Northridge, snapping a four-match losing streak to the Matadors with its 1-0 road win earlier this season... if the two were to meet on Sunday, it would be the first meeting on a neutral field in the series... the last four meetings (and seven of the last eight) have all resulted in shutouts.
#3 CAL POLY BRIEFLY: The Mustangs enter the tournament with a 9-6-3 overall record and a 6-1-2 mark in conference play, losing out on the higher seed to Cal State Northridge on goal differential... Cal Poly defeated UC Santa Barbara, 1-0, in its regular season finale... the Mustangs' only loss in conference play came against Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 21... Elise Krieghoff leads the team with 11 goals and 22 points on the year while Cici Kobinski (15) and Sara Epps (12) also finished in double figures in points... Alyssa Giannetti played all but 16 minutes in net for the Mustangs, posting a 1.70 goals against average and 118 saves to go with three shutouts.
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH THE MUSTANGS: Cal Poly leads the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton, 12-7-4, as the Titans earned only their second win in the last seven meetings (2-4-1) with the Mustangs thanks to a 4-0 shutout on Oct. 21 at Titan Stadium... Fullerton is 1-2 against Cal Poly on a neutral field... the Mustangs are 2-0 against the Titans in Big West Tournament matches played in Irvine, posting a 3-2 win in 1997 and a 1-0 shutout in 2004.
"O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!": Seniors Stacey Fox, Jennifer Smith, and JeAnne Mazeau, along with sophomore Chelsey Patterson, have been selected as captains for 2012.
#WINNING: Cal State Fullerton's victory over Pacific on Sunday gave the Titans their 10th win of the year overall -- the most for a Fullerton squad since the 2007 team finished 12-8-2 en route to the second round of the NCAA Tournament -- and their seventh conference victory of the season -- the highest number since they finished 7-1-1 in 2004. With their 10 wins, the Titans were only one of two Big West teams (Long Beach State) to finish the regular season with double-digit win totals.
GO WEST, YOUNG JANALI: Junior Janali West closed out the 2012 regular season in a big way for the Titans, recording a natural hat trick with three unanswered goals in a 24-minute span on Sunday to help beat Pacific, 4-1. For West, they were the first three goals of the season and her first career hat trick -- the first by a Titan since Ann Marie Tangorra recorded three scores in a win over North Texas on Sept. 18, 2011. West's hat trick is the 16th in the history of the program.
WE'RE GOING STREAKING!: Will Ferrell would be proud. With their two wins over the weekend, the Titans enter the Big West Conference Tournament with a three-match winning streak -- their second streak of at least that many games this season -- as they closed out the year with wins in seven of their final eight contests. During its most recent run, Fullerton has outscored the opposition by a 10-2 count and has outscored conference opponents, 18-10, in nine contests overall.
POINTS MADE: With a pair of four-goal outbursts in their last three contests, the Titans' offense boosted its season total to 30 goals in 2012 -- the most for a Fullerton squad since the Titans finished with 31 scores in 2007 and currently third in the Big West Conference -- while the team's 29 assists this season is the highest total since the 2005 squad helped on 34 goals and currently stands tied for the top spot in the league with Long Beach State.
TANGORRA ON A TEAR: Senior Ann Marie Tangorra has been on a bit of a tear as of late, adding a pair of assists during last weekend's trip to Northern California to extend her point-scoring streak to three matches after a two-goal game against Cal Poly on Oct. 21. The two helpers give her three on the season (second on the team) and nine for her career -- just outside the top 10 on the career list and one back of Jennifer Smith, the team's active leader with 10 assists.
SHE'S A KEEPER: Since her return to the cage against top-ranked Florida State on Sept. 1, junior goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic has been solid between the pipes for the Titans, posting a 1.00 goals against average (third in the Big West Conference) and five shutouts (tied for second in the league) to go with 44 saves (ninth in the league) and a .772 save percentage (fifth in the league). With her four saves on Sept. 16 against Texas Tech, Maricic became only the sixth Titan keeper to notch 100 career saves (and currently ranks fifth on the all-time list with 131) and she earned her 17th and 18th career victories over the weekend, keeping her in sole possession of fourth on the school's all-time list (Suzy Strazzulla and Laura Janke are tied for second with 24 wins).
MARICIC LOVES CLEAN SHEETS: With her fifth shutout of the season against UC Riverside on Oct. 14, Maricic logged the 11th clean sheet of her career -- good for third place behind only Laura Janke (13 from 2000-03) and career leader Karen Bardsley (26 from 2002-06) on the all-time list.
SHUT(OUT) THE FRONT DOOR!: As the Titans head into this weekend's Big West Tournament, Cal State Fullerton has yet to be shutout this season, extending a streak that has lasted a total of 21 matches overall dating back to a 1-0 loss to Cal State Northridge on Oct. 20, 2011.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB: With her two goals against Cal Poly on Oct. 21, senior Ann Marie Tangorra notched the 10th and 11th scores of her two-year Titan career, making her only the 18th player in the history of the program to reach double digits in goals, joining her teammate Stacey Fox, who accomplished the feat in 2011. In only 33 matches as a Titan entering this weekend, Tangorra ranks fifth on the school's career chart in points per game (0.94), third in assists per game (0.27), and tied for sixth in goals per game (0.33), while ranking second on the all-time list in shots per game at 3.06 -- trailing only all-time leading scorer Dolores Browning (1995-98), who averaged 3.38 shots per match during her standout four-year career.
IT ONLY TAKES ONE: Cal State Fullerton has had five matches decided by a 1-0 score this season and the Titans are unbeaten in all five contests, posting a perfect 5-0 record. Fullerton's 2-1 win over UC Daivs last weekend marked the 13th one-goal match in 18 contests this season (7-6 in those games).
MISSING IT BY *THIS* MUCH: It is really becoming a heartbreaking, yet consistent, story for the Titans in 2012 as six of their eight losses this season have been decided by a single goal save a, 3-1, defeat to UC Irvine on Sept. 28 and a 4-2 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 19. Also, in an odd turn of events, five of Fullerton's eight defeats have come via a 2-1 score -- including a pair in overtime in back-to-back contests at Loyola Marymount (Aug. 19) and Michigan (Aug. 24).
CORNERING THE MARKET: Fullerton's 11 corner kicks (all in the first half) against UC Riverside on Oct. 14 were just one shy of the team's season high (12 at Cal State Northridge on Oct. 5) and two short of the school single-match record of 13 that has been reached on three occassions (the last coming against Pacific on Nov. 4, 2005). The Titans enter the final weekend with a huge lead in the category overall in the Big West, accumulating 117 corners to pace the league (UC Irvine is second with 93).
GOOD THINGS COME IN PAIRS: When seniors Stacey Fox and Ann Marie Tangorra punctuated their final home appearance of their collegiate careers with two goals apiece on Oct. 21 against Cal Poly, they accomplished something that hasn't been done by a Titan duo in nine years when Paige Morgan and Kandace Wilson each scored twice in a 5-0 win over Oregon on Sept. 28, 2003. Sunday's scoring outburst marked only the ninth time in the history of the program that the Titans have had two players score at least two goals in a match, a short list that also includes a trio of Titans (Jenny Mescher, Erica Jacalone, and Tennli Ulicny) with at least two goals in an 8-0 win over Southern Utah on Sept. 23, 2001.
LUCKY SEVEN: With her two goals against Cal Poly, senior Stacey Fox took over the team lead in the category, posting the most goals for a Titan striker since Christina Murillo finished with eight in 2010 and setting a personal career high in the process, besting her five goals scored during both her freshman and junior seasons.
FOX-Y LADY: Fox continues to climb in the Titans' record books, as her two goals last weekend gave her 20 for her career -- good for sixth-place all-time and just one behind Kellie Cox (2001-05) for fifth -- while her 45 career points moved her into ninth place on the school's all-time list -- just one back of former midfielder-turned-assistant coach Lauryn Pehanich (nee Welch) for eighth. Fox also ranks eighth on the school's all-time list for goals per game (0.30), tied for eighth in shots (107), tied for third in game-winning goals (6), and tied for fourth in penalty kicks made (2).
"E" WITH ANOTHER "A": Junior Erica Mazeau tallied her team-best seventh assist of the season in the Titans' win over Cal Poly, placing her in a three-way tie for second in the Big West (just one back of Long Beach State's Nadia Link for the team lead) overall and tied for second with 0.44 assists per game. The "helper" helped the Yorba Linda native leap up the school's record books as well, placing her in a five-way tie for second on the single-season list (Barbie Gil holds the mark with 13 assists in 1996) while her eight career assists are just outside the top 10.
