KICK OFF: Currently in the midst of its longest winning streak of the season, the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team (6-7 overall, 3-1 in the Big West Conference) returns to Orange County to kick off its final homestand of the 2012 season this weekend with a single match against UC Riverside on Sunday (Oct. 14) at 6 p.m.

UC RIVERSIDE BRIEFLY: The Highlanders enter the week with a 5-8-2 overall record and an 0-4 mark in Big West play to stand as one of only two winless teams in league play thus far... UC Riverside has lost its last four straight since a 2-1 win over Lamar on Sept. 23, falling by a combined 12-3 score in its first four conference matches... the Highlanders are 2-3-1 away from home this season... with four goals and nine points, Crystal Lopez leads UCR in scoring, taking only six shots to do so... nine different Highlanders have found the back of the net this season... Riverside has been outshot by a combined, 216-169, through 15 matches... Jessica White has posted a 1.62 goals against average and 64 saves in 13 starts, seeing all but 192 minutes in net.
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH THE HIGHLANDERS: Cal State Fullerton leads the all-time series with UC Riverside, 6-4-2, and has posted identical records of 3-2-1 at home and away... the Titans are unbeaten in their last three meetings with the Highlanders (2-0-1), posting victories in 2009 (1-0) and 2010 (2-1) before battling to a 1-1 draw in 2011 on the road... Fullerton has won five of the last seven overall and three of the last four at Titan Stadium, winning in 2010 after a 3-2 loss to UCR in 2008... the two teams have gone to overtime three times with the Titans holding a 1-0-2 edge in those contests.
"O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!": Seniors Stacey Fox, Jennifer Smith, and JeAnne Mazeau, along with sophomore Chelsey Patterson, have been selected as captains for 2012.
MARICIC NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cal State Fullerton junior goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic was named the Big West Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8 following a pair of road shutouts in extra time to help the Titans pick up six points in the league standings. It is the first career weekly honor from the league office for Maricic, who joins teammate Ann Marie Tangorra (Sept. 10) as weekly winners this season, and is the first Fullerton goalkeeper to win weekly honors from the conference since Shannon Simpson on Aug. 25, 2008. Maricic saved all 10 shots on frame -- five in each match -- as Fullerton slipped by Cal State Northridge and Hawaii by identical 1-0 scores in overtime on the road. She lowered her goals against average to 0.97 while tallying her third and fourth clean sheets of the season and extended her shutout streak of 268:37 that dates back to a first half goal against then-No. 21 Long Beach State on Sept. 30.
THE MAGNIFICENT MAZEAU'S: No... not the latest act from Ringling Bros., but perhaps, the latest goal-scoring act at Titan Stadium? Senior JeAnne Mazeau and her younger sister, Erica, each tallied their first career goals over the weekend, accounting for the only two scores the Titans needed in 1-0 victories over Cal State Northridge and Hawaii. Erica teamed up with her sister and notched the game-winning assist on JeAnne's first career score in the first minute of overtime on Oct. 5 to best the Matadors while Erica took things into her own hands (feet?) on Oct. 7 against the Rainbow Wahine, finishing off a 60-yard run with her first career strike to beat Hawaii, ending its 12-match home unbeaten streak in (another first...) Fullerton's inaugural trip to Honolulu.
SHE'S HERE TO HELP: Erica Mazeau's three consecutive matches with an assist from Aug. 19-26 ranks tied for the second-longest such streak in school history with four other players, standing behind only Erica Jacalone and her school-record four-straight matches with an assist from Sept. 3-17, 2001. Mazeau has also assisted on three game-winners this season, ranking tied for third in school history in that category, and has six assists overall in 2012, placing her in a tie for second in the Big West Conference entering the weekend. Her six assists match teammate Ann Marie Tangorra's team-high total from last season and are the most for a Titan since Jenae Gibbens finished with seven in 2008.
OH, NO... NOT OVERTI... WAIT... NEVER MIND: Fullerton earned its first win in extra time on Oct. 5 at Cal State Northridge and won back-to-back overtime matches for the first time since Sept. 11-16 last season with its grueling double-overtime victory at Hawaii. The Titans moved to 2-2 in overtime this season with the victories with all four extra-time contests played on the road. Fullerton has now played 33 overtime matches over a span of 112 total games in Head Coach Demian Brown's five-plus seasons at the helm.
SINGLES SCENE: Fullerton's 1-0 victory over Hawaii marked the Titans' 11th one-goal match in 13 contests this season and the fourth that has ended with a 1-0 score.
SHUT(OUT) THE FRONT DOOR!: As the Titans head into the home stretch, Cal State Fullerton has yet to be shutout with five matches remaining in the regular season, extending a streak that has lasted a total of 16 matches overall dating back to a 1-0 loss to Cal State Northridge on Oct. 20, 2011. However, in the "it only takes one" department, the Titans are still waiting for the offensive dam to burst as they have scored multiple goals in a match just three times in 2012, scoring twice against USC on Aug. 17 and No. 21 Long Beach State on Sept. 30, while netting a season-high three goals against Army on Sept. 14.
MARICIC LOVES CLEAN SHEETS: With her fourth shutout of the season at Hawaii on Oct. 7, Maricic became only the third Titan keeper to reach double digits in that category, logging the 10th clean sheet of her career and jumping into third place behind Laura Janke (13 from 2000-03) and career leader Karen Bardsley (26 from 2002-06) on the all-time list.
SHE'S A KEEPER: Since her return to the cage against top-ranked Florida State on Sept. 1, junior goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic has been solid between the pipes for the Titans, posting a 0.97 goals against average (second in the Big West Conference) and four shutouts (second in the league) to go with 31 saves and a .795 save percentage. With her four saves on Sept. 16 against Texas Tech, Maricic became only the sixth Titan keeper to notch 100 career saves (and currently ranks fifth on the all-time list with 118) and she earned her 15th career victory on Sunday against Hawaii, moving her into sole possession of fourth on the school's all-time list.
MISSING IT BY *THIS* MUCH: It is really becoming a heartbreaking, yet consistent, story for the Titans in 2012 as six of their seven losses have been decided by a single goal save a, 3-1, defeat to UC Irvine on Sept. 28. Also, in an odd turn of events, five of Fullerton's seven defeats have come via a 2-1 score -- including a pair in overtime in back-to-back contests at Loyola Marymount (Aug. 19) and Michigan (Aug. 24).
FAN APPRECIATION: The women's soccer team's doubleheaders with the Titans' men's team brought out the fans last weekend as Fullerton drew better than 1,000 for the third time at home this season (and the fourth overall when you count the 1,123 fans in attendance at No. 1 Florida State on Sept. 7). Friday night's attendance of 1,182 against UC Irvine ranks fifth on the all-time list while the 1,002 fans for Sunday night's clash with No. 21 Long Beach State ranks ninth. The Titans also drew 1,063 fans for their season opener on Aug. 17 against USC, a total that ranks eighth.
THIRD TIME'S A CHARM: Cal State Fullerton's win over No. 21 Long Beach State on Sunday night was its first victory over a nationally ranked opponent in three tries this season and its first since a 2-0 shutout of No. 18 UNC Greensboro on Sept. 5, 2010, at Titan Stadium. With the win, the Titans, who have suffered losses to then-No. 21 Oregon State and top-ranked Florida State in back-to-back matches by 2-1 scores earlier this season, improved to 5-15 against ranked teams since 2007 under Head Coach Demian Brown.
FOX-Y LADY: With a goal and an assist in last week's Big West Conference openers, senior Stacey Fox reached double-digit points for the third time in her four seasons as a Titan, tallying her second assist of the season on Adriana Gjonovich's game-tying goal against UC Irvine and gaining a share of the team lead with her fourth goal of the season on her first career penalty kick attempt against No. 21 Long Beach State. One of only 17 players in the history of the program to reach double digits in goals scored, Fox's 39 career points rank 10th on the school's all-time list (just three points back of Christina Murillo's 42 points for ninth) while her 17 goals now place her tied for seventh with current assistant coach Lauryn Pehanich (nee Welch) and Tennli Ulicny.
