THIS WEEK: The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team (2-5 overall) closes out the non-conference portion of its 2012 schedule this weekend, hosting the four-team Under Armour Invitational at Titan Stadium. Big West rival Long Beach State, Army, and Texas Tech joins the host Titans for the two-day event that begins on Friday (Sept. 14) at 5 p.m. and concludes on Sunday (Sept. 16) with two games per day.

ARMY BRIEFLY: The Black Knights enter the weekend with a 3-4 overall record after dropping their only contest last week, 2-1, to Iowa… Army has posted wins over Vermont (3-1), Texas State (2-1), and Seton Hall (1-0)… junior Joey Molacek leads the team with three goals and seven points, pacing an offense that has seen six different players find the back of the net and nine score at least one point… junior Kim An leads the team with 20 shots as no other player has more than eight… sophomore Linda Rosas has started six of the seven matches in net, posting a 1.27 goals against average and 29 saves to go with one shutout.

TEXAS TECH BRIEFLY: The Red Raiders enter the weekend with a 5-2 overall record, losing their last two contests at Ole Miss (2-0) and Auburn (2-1) after opening the year with five consecutive victories while surrendering only one goal in that span… junior Jessica Fuston leads the team with four goals and shares the team lead with eight points with freshman Janine Beckie (3 goals, 2 assists)… Texas Tech has outshot its opponents, 114-59, this season led by Beckie's 29 shots… junior Victoria Esson has started all seven matches in net, posting a 0.77 goals against average and 23 saves to go with three shutouts.

MISSING IT BY *THIS* MUCH: All seven of Cal State Fullerton's matches this season have been decided by a single goal while four of its five losses have come via a 2-1 score – two of those in overtime. The Titans have been outscored, 11-8, this season, but they have yet to be shutout in five contests thus far and both of their victories have been by a 1-0 score.
TANGORRA GETS PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD: Cal State Fullerton senior forward Ann Marie Tangorra was named the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring a pair of goals against top-ranked Florida State on the road and Creighton at home. The first brought the Titans even against the Seminoles in the 12th minute of a 2-1 loss – her first goal since the team's season opener against USC on Aug. 17 and ended Florida State's shutout streak of nearly 365 minutes. Two days later, Tangorra netted her second of the weekend, tallying the game-winner with just over a minute to play to beat the Bluejays.
THAT'S QUITE A STREAK YOU'VE GOT THERE: With her two goals over the weekend, Tangorra has now notched a point in each of the last three matches when you include her assist against No. 21 Oregon State on Aug. 30. She becomes the third Titan to notch a point in at least three consecutive matches this season joining senior Stacey Fox, who had three goals and an assist in her first four matches of the year from Aug. 17-30 (she missed the match at LMU on Aug. 19), and junior Erica Mazeau, who had assists in three-straight games from Aug. 19-26.
MOVIN' ON UP: Tangorra's current scoring tear has her moving on up the school's career charts, giving her eight goals, seven assists, and 23 points to go with 76 shots. While she needs 13 points to match teammate Stacey Fox for 10th on the career points list, Tangorra's 0.96 points per game average (over 24 career games) stands fifth all time and her 0.33 goals per game average is tied for sixth. Tangorra's 0.29 assists per game average and her 3.17 shots per game also stand second all time entering the week.
SAVE ME: Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic, who played every minute in net for the Titans last season, made a memorable 2012 debut last weekend, thrown directly into the fire against the No. 1 team in the nation in Tallahassee, Fla., and posting her first win and shutout of the year two days later against Creighton. Her six saves over the weekend have moved her into a tied for sixth on the school's all-time list, needing just seven more stops to become only the sixth Fullerton keeper to accumulate 100 career saves, while also ranking among the school's career lists in saves per game (3.44 – 6th), save percentage (.756 – 6th), goals against average (1.09 – 3rd), wins (11 – 6th), and shutouts (7 – 5th).
MAY I HELP YOU?: Senior Jennifer Smith became the seventh different player to notch a point this season with her assist on Ann Marie Tangorra's goal to beat Creighton. It was the nine helper of her career – the most among active Titans and just three shy of matching Kim Houg (1999-02), Kandace Wilson (2002-05), and current assistant coach Lauryn Pehanich (nee Welch) (2003-06), for ninth on the all-time list.
