Incoming Golfer Honored

April 29, 2010

San Jacinto, Calif. - Incoming Cal State Fullerton golfer Kathryn New has been selected Mt. San Jacinto College Female Student-Athlete of the Year for 2009-2010.

The sophomore from Hemet High School will be honored at the school's Honors Convocation on May 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Western Center of Archaeology and Paleontology.

New placed fourth in the 2009 state community college tournament at Kings Country Club in Hanford. She shot a final round of 79 and then won a playoff on the first hole to claim fourth place outright. It was the first season of competition for the Lady Eagles. As a freshman, New was the only female on the men's team and the only female to play in the Foothill Conference and played from the men's tees. She is an honor student and has worked several summers as a volunteer for Grandfathers for Golf, a non-profit organization which teaches youngsters the rules and how to play golf.
