Titans Remain in Seventh

Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. - Defending champion UC Davis is one step closer to claiming its second straight Big West Women's Golf Championship after registering a second-round score of 284 for a two-day total of 575, which extended its lead over Long Beach State to 12 strokes.

Sitting in second place, Long Beach State shot 295 on the day for a two-round total of 587. Cal Poly jumped to third place with a two-round score of 595 (300-295), while UC Irvine slid to the fourth slot after carding 601 (297-304). The Matadors of Cal State Northridge own the fifth spot with a two-day total of 618 (318-300) and is followed by UC Riverside (310-309) and Cal State Fullerton (320-307).

Neomi Hunt leads Fullerton with a 79-77=156, which is 12 over par. Taylor Fowler came in at 81-76=157; Deidre Crabtree is at 79-79=158; Kristen Aiu is at 82-76=158; and Kathryn New is at 81-78=159.

For the second straight day, UC Davis' Alice Kim shot lights-out in less then ideal weather conditions. After tying a course record in the first round with a 6-under 66, Kim was one stroke shy of matching her previous performance with a 5-under-par 67. Kim's two-round total of 133 leads second place Monica Villareall (67-72=139) from Long Beach State by six strokes. Aggie Demi Runas shot two rounds of 70 to place third with a 140 total.

Day three of the 2011 Big West Women's Golf Championship event at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., tees off Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring of the event can be viewed at www.golfstat.com .

The NCAA Division I regionals for women will be held at three sites, including the West Regional at the Washington National Golf Course in Seattle, Wash., from May 5-7. The four-day NCAA Women's Golf Championship is scheduled for May 17-20 at the Traditions Golf Club in College Station, Texas.
