Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. - A hole-in-one and a course record-equalling effort on the first day of the 2011 Big West Women's Golf Championship fueled the UC Davis Aggies to a first-place score of three-over 291 to pace the seven-team field.

The Aggies own a one-stroke lead over Long Beach State, which sits in second place at 292. UC Irvine holds the third spot after totaling 297 and Cal State Northridge rests in fourth place with a score of 300. UC Riverside (310) is in fifth place and is followed by Cal State Northridge (318) in sixth and Cal State Fullerton in seventh (320).

In the individual standings, UC Davis' Alice Kim, aided by six birdies, blasted a 6-under 66 to tie the course record and capture the top spot on the leaderboard. Long Beach State's Monica Villarreall finished one stroke off the lead with a 5-under 67. She carded one birdie on the first nine and four on the back nine to claim the second slot.

Neomi Hunt and Deidre Crabtree both shot 79s (7 ove) to pace Fullerton. Taylor Fowler and Kathryn New shot 81s and Kriten Aiu carded an 82.

Demi Runas finished second on the Aggies' squad after chipping a hole-in-one on the 174-yard seventh hole en route to a 2-under-par 70. She finds herself tied for third with UC Riverside's Amelia Ek.

Day two of the 2011 Big West Women's Golf Championship event at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., tees off at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring of the event can be viewed at www.golfstat.com.
