Titans Open Up 2021 Season at SoCal Ryder Cup

FULLERTON,Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's golf team opened up their 2021 season by participating in the third annual SoCal Ryder Cup. The one-day tournament held at Goose Creek Golf Course in Mira Loma, Calif. yielded an 11-1 victory for the CBU Lancers over the Titans.

The front nine consisted of a two-team, best-ball match play, while the back nine would showcase a 1-on-1 singles match play with four different groups. The format was set up for each match to be worth two points in both the team and singles play for a total of 12 points on the line.

At 1:00PM PST, the Titans first group made up of Lisa Djerf and Haruka Koda teed off to start the day. The second group, Nodoka Honda and Brittany Shin would follow at 1:10PM PST.

At the end of the front nine play, Djerf and Koda fell short by 2 to Sofia Chabon and Filipa Capelo of CBU. Honda and Shin would follow suit as they would finish 2-down against Hailey Loh and Haruka Shintani of CBU.

Titans would enter the back nine down 0-4 with 8 points still up for grabs. The singles 1-on-1 match play line up was as follows:

Chabon v. Djerf

Capelo v. Koda

Loh v. Honda

Shintsni v. Shin.

Koda would go on to split her match with Capelo, earning the Titans their lone point on the day.

"Losing is never easy, especially for a team who is extremely competitive. Yesterday taught us a lot about ourselves and how we can better prepare for our next tournament. Overall the team performed well, but CBU performed better. At the end of the day it's not the best team that wins, it's the team that plays the best that wins — and that's what CBU demonstrated. The team is hungry to get back in action next week."

-Kat Hosch, Head Coach

The Titans will be back in action February 8-9 as they will tee up at The Valley Invitational in Bakersfield, Calif., hosted by CSU Bakersfield.
