Titans Return to Action at The Gold Rush

THIS WEEK: Cal State Fullerton returns to the links this week to kick off its spring schedule at The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State beginning Monday.

THE COURSE: The Gold Rush will be held at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, Calif. It is the second straight year the event will be held at Old Ranch after the first three were held at the Yorba Linda Country Club. This year's event will begin with the first 36 holes on Monday with the last 18 being played Tuesday. Each day will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

THE FIELD: The Titans and host 49ers will be joined by 13 other teams in the 15-team field at The Gold Rush. The rest of the field will feature Boise State, Boston College, BYU, Cal Poly, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Nevada, Mississippi, Sacramento State, UC Irvine an USC.

IN THE RANKINGS: The field will feature nine teams ranked in the GolfWeek Top-100 rankings including No. 1 USC. Others in the rankings are BYU (No. 37), Long Beach State (No. 66), Gonzaga (No. 69), Fresno State (No. 70), Colorado State (No. 76), Mississippi (No. 85), Idaho (No. 96), and Nevada (No. 98). The Titans are currently ranked No. 133 in the rankings, which were last published on Feb. 18.

HISTORY AT THE GOLD RUSH: The Titans have been slated to compete at The Gold Rush every year since its inception in 2010, the year it was cancelled due to weather. The Titans best finish at The Gold Rush came in 2014 when they tied for third place with UC Riverside, 20 strokes behind Gonzaga, which won the tournament. The Titans finished in 11th place last year. On the individual side, Tisha Alyn Abrea has recorded the best finish at The Gold Rush, placing fourth with a 14-over 230 in 2013. She was six strokes behind the champion. Last year, Brittany Farrell recorded her first career top-10 finish as she tied for 10th place with a 9-over 225.

LEADING THE CHARGE INTO SPRING: Coming into The Gold Rush, junior Martina Edberg leads the Titans with a 72.75 scoring average after the team's first four tournaments of the year. She also recorded a victory at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in September. Farrell is the only other Titans golfer to have played in all four tournaments during the fall and has a 76.83 scoring average.
