Edberg Sets New Single Round Record at Dick McGuire Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Junior Martina Edberg set a new Cal State Fullerton record as she shot a 5-under 68 in the second round of the Dick McGuire Invitational hosted by New Mexico Monday at the U.N.M. Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. 

Edberg's single round score of 68 is a new Fullerton record, one she held along with former Titans golfer and teammate Tisha Alyn Abrea. Both recorded a 3-under 69 a combined five times, the most recent coming from Edberg last season at the New Mexico State Invitational. With the course playing at a par-73, Edberg's five strokes under par are also a new record.

Overall, Edberg shot a combined 4-under 142 on the opening day of the Dick McGuire Invitational after posting a 1-over 74 in the opening round Monday morning. Edberg sits in a tie for sixth place, just two strokes behind day one leader Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford, who shot a 6-under 140 after 36 holes. Edberg was also one of 22 golfers in the 104-entrant field to finish the first two rounds with a score under par.

The Glumslov, Sweden native tallied nine birdies on the day, six of them coming in round two. Her only blemish on the day was a recording a triple-bogey on the par-4 No. 6 in the opening round.

As for the Titans, the team finished the first day with a 36-over 620 to place 16th going into the final round on Tuesday. Fullerton posted a 20-over 312 in round one and followed that with a 16-over 308 in the second. Defending NCAA National Champion Stanford leads the team rankings after posting an 18-under 566, 12 strokes ahead of second-place Northwestern.

Brittany Farrell started her sophomore campaign at Fullerton with a 9-over 155 through 36 holes. She is tied for 66th place going into Tuesday. Freshman Felicia Medalla carded a 14-over 160 in the first action of her Titans career, placing her in a tie for 81st. Nadine Rivera recorded an 18-over 164 to tie for 95th place while Ebba Nilsson came posted a 24-over 170 after 36 holes. 

Freshman Brittney Sok competed as an individual for the Titans and posted a 25-over 171 in her first action as a member of the Titans.

Fullerton will return to the links Tuesday to wrap up the Dick McGuire Invitational with a shotgun start scheduled for 7 a.m.
