SAN LUIS OBISPO – Martina Edberg became the first golfer in the history of Cal State Fullerton women's golf to capture a conference title Tuesday at the Big West Conference Championships hosted by Cal Poly at the San Luis Obispo Golf and Country Club.

The freshman defeated Clariss Guce of Cal State Northridge in a one-hole playoff to win the 2014 Big West Conference individual championship, finishing the 54-hole competition with a collective 2-under 217.

Edberg came into the final round tied for second place after shooting an even-par 146 through 36 holes but saved her best round for last. The freshman posted a 2-under 71, the fourth time she's shot a 71 this season, to catch Guce at the top of the leaderboard and force a playoff.

The win was Edberg's second of the year after she secured co-medalist honors at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite on Mar. 3-4 in San Jose, Calif. The victory does not guarantee Edberg a spot at one of the three NCAA Division I Regionals but the freshman does have a chance to obtain an at-large berth, which will be announced April 28 at 3 p.m. on the Golf Channel.

As for the Titans, the squad finished seventh at the Big West Championships, shooting a collective 942 over the 54 holes. The Titans matched their second round score on Tuesday, shooting a 25-over 317 in the final round to finish the competition at 66-over par. UC Davis scored their fifth consecutive Big West title, finishing with a 19-over 895, 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Cal State Northridge.

Tisha Alyn Abrea concluded the final round with a 7-over 80 to finish the competition with a 12-over 231. Abrea was in the 80s for just the second time this season but still recorded her eighth top-20 finish of the season, placing in a tie for 13th place, 14 shots off the lead.

Makayla Mier finished in 33rd place for the Titans, shooting a collective 245 through the 54-hole event. Mier posted a 10-over 83 in the final round.

Dakota Brown also shot a 10-over 83 on Tuesday, improving on her second round score by two strokes. Brown finished in 37th place with a collective score 249, 30-over par.

Nadine Rivera rounded out the scoring for the Titans, shooting a 15-over 88 on Tuesday. Rivera finished the 54 holes with a collective 263, placing her in 39th place overall.

This concludes the 2013-14 season for the Titans. They scored one team victory to go along with two individual titles this season and recorded four of the lowest 54-hole team scores in team history.
