SAN JOSE, Calif. – Freshman Martina Edberg finished tied for the individual lead after the first two rounds Monday as Cal State Fullerton took part in the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational hosted by San Jose State University Monday at the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif.
Edberg recorded a 2-under 142 after the first 36 holes of the competition, placing her in a tie for first with Sammi Stevens of New Mexico. Edberg shot back-to-back rounds of 71 on day one of the competition, marking the third best score she has recorded in her young career with the Titans.
She recorded her best single-round score since shooting a 2-under 70 in the first round of the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate on October 7.
Edberg's excellent round helped keep the Titans in the top-10 of the team rankings as they finished the day in ninth place after shooting a collective 29-over 605 after 36 holes. They are two strokes behind fifth place Coastal Carolina and 17 shots back of day-1 leader Oregon.
Tisha Alyn Abrea and Seri Lee each finished with a 9-over 153 after the first day. Abrea started the day with a 6-over 78 in round one before putting up a 3-over 75 in the second round. Lee recorded a 5-over 77 in the opening round before ending her day with a 4-over 76 in the second round. They are both tied for 33rd in the individual rankings.
Makayla Mier scored a 159 on her day, shooting a 6-over 78 to round out the Titans scoring in the second round.
Dakota Brown shot a 7-over 79 in her first round of play to round out the team's first round score and she finished the day shooting a collective 159.
The Titans will return for the final round Tuesday as the 13 squads get set for a shotgun start for the last 18 holes of play starting at 8:30 a.m.
