YORBA LINDA, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton sophomore Tisha Alyn Abrea fired a 9-over-par 153 to finish in a tie for fifth individually and help lead the Titans' women's golf team to sixth place after the first two rounds of The Gold Rush presented by Farmers Insurance and hosted by Long Beach State on Monday at the Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda, Calif.
Abrea, who ended the first round in a tie for 14th after shooting a 79 through the first 18 holes, improved by five strokes in round two and jumped up nine spots to match the performance of Nevada's Caryn Khoo and the 49ers' Chaewon Park. San Diego State's Emma Henrikson is the 36-hole leader, shooting an even-par 144 to lead Long Beach State's Shawnee Martinez by three strokes heading into the final round.
The Titans are at 67-over-par (643) for the tournament, one shot back of fifth-place BYU after two rounds and 33 shots back of the host 49ers, who led wire-to-wire on Monday and finished with 35-over-par 611. Gonzaga (+41) and San Diego State (+47) round out the top three.
Sophomore Seri Lee is in a five-way tie for 20th, shooting a 16-over-par 160 through two rounds, and is joined in the top 25 by senior Deidre Crabtree, who competed as an individual and finished one back of her teammate at 17-over-par, jumping up from a tie for 47th after a first round 84 and shooting a 77 in round two.
Transfer Makayla Mier shot two rounds of 81 to finish at 18-over-par (162) and a tie for 33rd, senior Neomi Hunt finished in a tie for 55th with a 25-over-par 169, and senior Nicole Rivera was in a tie for 59th at 27-over-par (171). Senior Dakota Brown, also competing as an individual, finished day one in 64th with a 40-over-par 184.
