PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton senior Taylor Fowler finished the first 36 holes in a tie for fifth place individually and the Titans stand in third place overall in the team standings after day one at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Wyoming at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. 

Fullerton, which was in second place after a first round 295, slipped one spot to third place after 36 holes, 22 shots behind leader Fresno State (580). The first-round 295 on Saturday is the third-lowest single round since the program was reinstated in 2009-10.

Fowler finished the first round with a share of the individual lead, tying her career-low with a 70 through the first 18 holes -- only the fourth sub-par round for Fullerton thus far this season and the lowest round by a Titan in 2012. It matches the lowest single-round score by a Fullerton golfer since the program was reinstated, a distinction also held by Fowler, who shot 70's in the first rounds of the Fresno State Lexus Classic in 2010 and 2012.

The senior, however, slid to a second round 77 and stands at 3-over-par (147) after day one, trailing leader Christine Uhalde of Fresno State by seven strokes. Uhalde shot a first-round 71 and a 3-under-par 69 in round two to lead by one over the College of Charleston's Kathy Boehm.

Sophomore Tisha Alyn Abrea, who ended the first round in a tie for fourth with a 1-over-par 73, ended day one in a tie for 15th at 6-over-par, while senior Deidre Crabtree also ended up in the top 20 with a 7-over-par 150.

Seri Lee finished in a tie for 30th after 36 holes, shooting a 10-over-par 154 with a pair of 77's, while sophomore Makayla Mier improved seven shots from the first to the second round, finishing in a tie for 59th at 17-over-par (161).

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Sunday (Oct. 14) at 7:30 a.m.
