HIGH SCHOOL: Nicole Rivera was a four-time
first-team All-Empire League selection at Cypress High... team went
undefeated in league all four years... individually and
chronologically, she placed third, fifth, fourth and second in the
league championship tournament... she was a CIF state qualifier as
a junior... coached by Rob Walker as a freshman and by Douglas
Mitchell her remaining three years...
PREVIOUS COLLEGE: Nicole was a two-time
first-team all-conference and all-state golfer at Irvine Valley
College in Irvine, which won the state championship in 2010...
twice conference golfer of the year... second-team all-region as a
freshman and first-team as a sophomore... ranked No. 4 individually
in the state both seasons.
PERSONAL: Born on Mar. 19, 1991... parents are
Nathaniel and Cristina Rivera of Cypress... has two younger
siblings -- sister Nadine is a 4-year varsity golfer and 3-year
varsity basketball player and brother Christopher is a varsity
golfer as a freshman at Cypress HS... cousin Coryn is a nationally
ranked and Olympics bound female cyclist and her grandfather Herman
was the Philippine Olympic Gymnastics Coach at the 1968 Olympic
Games in Mexico... Nicole is a kinesiology major whose goal is to
make it to the LPGA Tour... her teaching pros have been Ron Park
(2001-10) and currently Alan Ochiai... chose Fullerton "because of
the great kinesiology program and the golf program... plus it
doesn't hurt that CSUF is also close to home"... credits sister
Nadine for most influence on her golf career: "we grew up playing
together and most of the time it is always competitive. She pushes
me to the max whether it is on the golf course, driving range or
workouts... in her free time Nicole likes to go to Disneyland to
relax, usually the day before tournaments.
