FULLERTON, CA - Ashley Richie, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Silverado High School in Victorville, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Cal State Fullerton women's basketball program beginning in the 2007-08 season, Head Coach Dr. Maryalyce Jeremiah announced on Thursday.
"From the first time I saw Ashley play, I knew she had to be a Titan," Jeremiah said. "Her speed, athleticism, and intensity will bring excellence to our program. Ashley is focused and determined to become a really good college player and we are excited about being a part of her future."
Richie is a four-time Desert Sky League First-Team selection, averaging 17.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.7 steals, and 4.4 assists per game in her career. Last season, she helped the Hawks to the CIF Southern Section Division III-A title while averaging 18.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 5.2 steals per game.
As a senior, Richie earned numerous player of the year laurels including CIF Division III-A Co-Player of the Year and Desert Sky League MVP. She helped Silverado HS to four league titles from 2004-07 and was named to the High Desert All-Area Team all four of her prep seasons.
Richie is the sixth player signed by the Titans for the 2007-08 season, joining previously announced signees Katie Avila (5-11, F, Tehachapi HS), Britton Peters (5-7, G, Bakersfield Centennial HS), Lauren Chow (5-3, G, La Palma Kennedy HS), Lyndsey Grove (5-9, G, Placentia Valencia HS), and Jenna Breite (6-1, F, Mt. Carmel HS).
