Previous College: Notre Dame, '08
Position: Associate Head Coach (5th Season)

Charel Allen will enter her fifth season with the Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team in the fall of 2021.  She joined Harada's first-year staff in 2017 as an assistant coach and was promoted to associate head coach in May of 2021. With Fullerton, she helps with the recruiting along with coaching the wings for the Titans.

The 2020-21 season was challenging for the Titans in numerous ways, starting with the shortened season due to COVID-19. After losing the team's starting backcourt from the prior season, roles changed quickly and the team had to shut down due to COVID in the middle of the season. The Titans qualified for the Big West Tournament and upset UC Riverside in the opening round. The Titans went 4-18 overall and Gabi Vidmar was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team.

In 2019-20, Krupa was leading the Big West with 10.7 rebounds per game before she went down to injury after nine games.  Carolyn Gill ably stepped in and was rewarded by being named to the Big West All-Defensive Team, and Big West Best Hustle Player.

In 2018-19, Allen's group of wings produced another fantastic season under her guidance. Leading the way was freshman Amiee Book, who had one of the best shooting seasons of all-time. The New Zealand native went on to win the Big West Sixth Player of the Year award and currently ranks third in program history for three-point shooting percentage (min. 100 attempts). Book wasn't the only shooter though, as Hannah Thompson joined her in a hot-handed three-point duo. Thompson shot over 31% from beyond the arc finishing her career sixth on the all-time Titan leaderboard.

In her first year at Fullerton, Allen saw her wings have a very productive 2017-18 season. Offensively, shooting guard Hannah Thompson averaged 12.4 points per game shooting 37.1% from beyond the arc. Thompson's 72 three-pointers is the fifth most for a single-season in program history and the most since the 2014-15 season. On the defensive side of things, Allen had arguably the star of the Fullerton defense in Carolyn Gill. Gill led the team with 41 steals on the year, good for a 1.5 per game average which ranked tenth in the Big West.

Allen concluded a nine-year professional playing career that included stops in Turkey, Bulgaria and Israel before she joined the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball coaching staff for the 2017-18 season as an assistant.

During her last professional stop, the University of Notre Dame graduate served as a player-coach for BK Montana 2003 during 2016 and 2017 in Montana, Bulgaria.

Her professional highlights include being drafted by the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs in 2008, winning a Women’s Adriatic Basketball Association regular season championship in 2017 while also earning all-WABA first team honors that season. Allen was a Bulgarian League champion in 2012 and 2016, and also won regular season titles in 2010, 2012, and 2015, while capturing the Bulgarian Cup in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016.

In addition, Allen was an all-Bulgarian League First Team selection in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016 and was named the Guard of the Year in 2014 and 2016 as well as Player of the Year in 2014. She was named to the Bulgarian League all-Import Team in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014, and was named the League Import Player of the Year in 2014.

Allen was as also an assistant coach for Monessen Middle School in Monessen, Pa., for the 2013-14 season. Since 2011, Allen has conducted The Charel Allen Basketball Camp and Highlight Game in Pittsburgh, Pa., and in addition she has worked as a skill development trainer since 2009.

A 2008 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and computer applications, Allen served as the team’s captain in her final two seasons (2007 & 2008), and was also a Big East Conference First Team selection both of those years. She was an Associated Press All-American honorable mention in 2008 as well as a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American in 2007 and 2008. She was the first player at Notre Dame to reach 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 200 steals and 200 assists.
