Titans Drop Final Nonconference Game to Sacramento State

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's basketball fell to Sacramento State Wednesday evening at Titan Gym by a final score of 67-55. With the loss the Titans fall to 5-4 on the year. 

Both teams struggled to score early in the game before Sacramento State went on a 12-4 run late in the first quarter and early into the second quarter. 

Fullerton trailed 31-21 at halftime. Ashlee Lewis led the team in scoring in the first half with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field. 

The Titans came out of the locker room at halftime determined to get back in the game, going on a 9-3 run to start the half. However, Sacramento State hit a couple of shots from behind the arc to regain a double-digit lead. 

Trailing by 15 points Kathryn Neff hit a three-pointer with 6:22 remaining to pull the Titans within 12 points and give the team much needed momentum.

Fujika Nimmo cut the Hornets lead to single digits with 4:26 remaining on a three-point basket. 

Fullerton battled tough throughout the rest of the game but ultimately were unable to overcome Sacramento State's lead. 

Una Jovanovic led the Titans with 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting. Sacramento State's Kahlaijah Dean led all scorers with 28 points. 

The Titans begin Big West Conference play next week as they head to Satna Barbara to take on the Gauchos Thursday Dec. 29 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
