SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's basketball dropped its season-opener at Santa Clara in overtime by a final of 76-72 Friday night.

The Titans (0-1) trailed late in the fourth quarter before Ashlee Lewis got fouled going to the basket and made two free-throws to tie the game at 65 and force overtime.

Fullerton jumped out to an early four-point lead in overtime on baskets by Fujika Nimmo and Lewis to put the team up 69-65. Santa Clara quickly came back to take the lead after two made shots including a three-pointer by Tess Heal.

Nimmo answered on the Titans next possession with a layup inside with 35 seconds remaining but a Fullerton turnover led to an easy bucket for Santa Clara to retake the lead which they would not give up.

The Titans led for a majority of the first half and dominated the first quarter, outscoring Santa Clara 27-17. Fullerton went into the locker room with a 37-34 lead. Lewis led the Titans through the first two quarters with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor.

Lewis finished the game with 17 points while Nimmo scored a tied for game-high 22 points on 9-of-22 shooting including 4-of-8 behind the arc. Nimmo's 26 points is her game-high while playing at Fullerton and just shy of her career-high of 28 points from her time at FIU.

The Titans look to bounce back Sunday in game two of their road trip as they face San Jose State at 2:00 p.m. PT.
