Wahinekapu's 19 Second Half Points Lead to Win Over UCSB

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's basketball defeated UC Santa Barbara Thursday night at Titan Gym by a final score of 61-48. The Titans improve to 9-13 and 4-8 in conference play.

Lily Wahinekapu took over in the second half, and more importantly the fourth quarter. The freshman went off for 19 points in the half with 15 of them coming in the fourth on her way to a game-high 24 points. Wahinekapu shot 9-for-17 from the field while adding five rebounds, two assists and two steals on the defensive end. 

Wahinekapu is averaging 15.1 points per game which leads the team and ranks third in the Big West Conference. The Hawai'i native has dropped 20 plus points in five games this season and has scored 10 points in all but three games. 

The Titans trailed 27-29 at halftime but came out of the locker room in the second half with an inspired performance as they outscored UC Santa Barbara 34-19. The Gauchos came into the game with second ranked defense in the conference, allowing just 57.1 points per game. 

Gabi Vidmar had a huge contribution for the Titans on both sides of the ball. Vidmar tied her season-high with 13 points on an impressive 5-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc. The sophomore also came up with six rebounds in the game. 

Carolyn Gill did what Titans fans are accustomed to seeing, playing with energy and passion the entire time she's on the court. Gill scored six points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds while adding five assists. 

Fullerton looks to carry its momentum into Saturday's game against CSUN as the Matadors come to Titan Gym for a Big West showdown at 6:00 p.m.
