Titans Lose to UC San Diego on the Road

SAN DIEGO – Cal State Fullerton women's basketball fell to UC San Diego Saturday afternoon by a score of 61-64 at the RIMAC Arena. The Titans are 6-9 on the season and 1-4 in Big West play.

Fullerton led 61-60 with time winding down, however, UC San Diego was able to regain possession on a Titans turnover with 10 seconds left. Julia Macabuhay drew a foul with six seconds remaining and hit two free-throws to give the Tritons the lead and eventually the win.

Lily Wahinekapu led the team offensively with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including an impressive 3-of-5 from three-point range. The freshman also dished out four assists and grabbed six rebounds. 

With just over one minute left and the game tied at 55, Fujika Nimmo hit a deep three-pointer to give the Titans the lead. Nimmo scored 17 points on 7-of-19 from the floor.

Clarissa Rodarte had her best game as a Titan, recording her first career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, both of which are career-highs. Rodarte and the Titans were all over the boards, out-rebounding UC San Diego 44 to 33, including 13 to seven at the offensive end. 

Fullerton looks to bounce back next week with two home games at Titan Gym. The Titans host UC Davis Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. before squaring off with UC Riverside Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
