WBB Handles Cal Poly, 65-49

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's basketball defeated Cal Poly by a score of 65-49 on Saturday to secure the first Big West win of the season for the Titans. Freshman guard Gabi Vidmar scored a game-high 19 points while senior forward Joy Krupa did a bit of everything with nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and career-highs in steals (7) and blocks (6).

The Titans (2-14, 1-11 Big West) led for 29 minutes on Saturday and were in control throughout the second half over the Mustangs. Defensively, the Titans were suffocating as Cal Poly recorded 20 turnovers and shot just 31.6% (18-57 FGA) from the field. Cal Poly was 6-21 (28.6%) from distance and 7-8 at the free-throw line. 

For Fullerton, the offense was humming all game. The team recorded 18 assists, tied for a season-high mark, on 21 made field goals. The Titans also turned the 20 Mustang turnovers into 22 points. CSF shot 53.8% (21-39) from the field, 47.4% (9-19) from distance and 70% (14-20) at the charity stripe.

Vidmar finished with a game-high 19 (7-13 FGA, 3-8 3FGA, 2-4 FTA), just off her career-best of 20. Along with Krupa stuffing the stat sheet, senior forward Carolyn Gill added nine points, four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Anniken Frey pitched in 11 points and five assists. 

Next up, the Titans head to UC Irvine on Friday and Saturday.
