HONOLULU -  Cal State Fullerton women's basketball lost at Hawai'i on Friday night by a score of 49-47. Sophomore guard Anniken Frey scored a career-high 16 points to lead the team. The Titans went 6-6 from three in the second half, won the fourth quarter 19-9 and had a shot to tie on the final possession of the game but couldn't complete the comeback. Game two of the series is set for 9 p.m. PT again on Saturday on BigWest.TV.

The Titans (1-8, 0-5 Big West) scored the first basket of the game but unfortunately, that lead would only last for 31 seconds and UH (2-3, 1-2 Big West) led for the rest of the way. Hawai'i led 29-14 at the half but the Titans won the third quarter 14-11 to trim the lead a bit. Then Fullerton exploded in the fourth quarter thanks to Frey and freshman guard Bella Stratford

Fullerton cut the Hawai'i lead to 45-44 at the 3:12 mark and would make a field goal the rest of the game. The ensuing six possessions results in a missed jumper, split two attempts at the free-throw line twice, turnover, split free throws, missed jumper at the buzzer.

Frey shot 5-10 overall and made a career-high four three-point field goals on five tries to go with five rebounds and two assists. Stratford was second on the team in scoring with nine points, six of which came in the fourth quarter. Senior forward Carolyn Gill had a rough shooting night but led the team in rebounds with 10. Sophomore forward Janette Mensah was a team-high +7 in the plus-minus category as she scored four points and grabbed a rebound in four minutes.

As the score suggests, it was not a good shooting night for either team. The Titans shot 28% (15-54) from the field while Hawai'i was at 34% (17-50). Fullerton missed its first six threes but made the next six, including four in the final quarter. UH was 6-22 (27%) at the line. Neither team was good at the free-throw line either with the Titans shooting 11-19 (58%) and the Rainbow Wahine at 9-15 (60%).
