WBB Defeats Concordia 69-51

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's basketball picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon against Concordia by a score of 69-51. Junior forward Amiee Book led the team in scoring with 14 while senior forward Joy Krupa (12) and freshman guard Bella Stratford scored in double figures as well. 

The Titans (1-7, 0-4 BWC) led for nearly 37 minutes on Saturday and were in control throughout the game. As a team, they didn't shoot the ball as well as usual, going just 28-62 (45.2%) from the field, 2-8 (25%) from distance and 11-18 (61.1%) at the free-throw line. Those eight three-point attempts marked a season-low as the Titans made getting to the basket a point of emphasis, scoring 36 points in the paint. The Titans won the turnover battle as they only turned it over 13 times which led to just eight Concordia points. Concordia recorded 20, which led to 24 Fullerton points. 

Book shot 5-12 from the field, 2-3 from distance and 2-2 at the line to tally her team-high 14 points. She has now scored 10+ points in 11 straight games dating back to last season. She also pitched in three rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocks. Krupa just missed a double-double with her 12 points and nine rebounds. She also pitched in two assists, two steals and three blocks. Stratford shot 5-9 from the floor and 3-4 at the charity stripe. She drew a team-high six fouls for the game while chipping in one assist and one steal and zero turnovers in 19 minutes of action. In just 17 minutes, freshman forward Ashlee Lewis contributed six points (3-4 FGA), seven rebounds and two blocks.

Next up, the Titans are scheduled to play at Hawai'i on January 22/23.
