WBB's Comeback Attempt Falls Short

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team lost at Long Beach State on Saturday by a score of 66-64, with their valiant comeback effort just short. Junior forward Amiee Book led the team in scoring with 21 points.

LBSU (7-1, 6-0 BWC) took the lead from the Titans with seven seconds left in the first quarter at the free-throw line and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the game. The Titans hung around and trailed by just six at halftime and quickly cut it to two in the second half. However, LBSU went on a run to open up a double-digit lead. The largest lead was 14 at the 7:15 mark of the fourth quarter. It was a two-point game with 42 seconds left thanks to a three from Book but the Titans could not tie or take the lead.

Turnovers plagued the Titans (0-7, 0-6 BWC) again as they had 26 which led to 22 points for Long Beach. On the other end, LBSU had just 10 turnovers that turned into three Fullerton points.

Justina King led LBSU in scoring with 21 points while Ma'Qhi Berry had 19. Long Beach shot 23-54 (42.6%) from the field, 2-14 (14.3%) from beyond the arc and 18-26 (69.2%) at the charity stripe.

For the Titans, Book had 21 points to go with four rebounds and three steals. Freshman guard Bell Stratford was next in scoring with 13 points while also adding four rebounds and two assists. She had a +/- of +10 in 18 minutes of action. 

As a squad, Fullerton 58.5% (24-41) from the floor, 60% (6-10) from distance and 50% (10-20) at the free-throw line.
