WBB Loses Conference Opener to UCSB

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton women's basketball dropped the Big West opener to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Friday night by a score of 83-54. Freshman center Ashlee Lewis led the team in scoring with 14 points. Game two of the series against the Gauchos is set for Saturday at 5 p.m. PT in Titan Gym.

UC Santa Barbara (1-6, 1-2 BWC) never trailed on Friday it jumped out to a 10-0 to start the game. The Titans (0-4, 0-1 BWC) were battling from behind throughout Lewis subbed in early in the first quarter and gave the team a big lift. She propelled the Titans to a 12-4 run, scoring 10 of those herself but the Gauchos rallied to take a 34-25 lead halftime. They scored 49 points in the second half while the Titans tallied just 29. Doris Jones scored a game-high 29 points for the Gauchos. 

Lewis had 14 points (6-11 FGA, 2-4 FTA) and four rebounds. Junior forward Amiee Book tallied 11 points (5-10 FGA, 1-4 3FGA) and four rebounds while sophomore forward Megan Nieto pitched in 10 points (5-6 FGA) and two assists.
