RAINA PEREZ FEATURE
IRVINE, Calif. – It was a banner day for the Cal State Fullerton women's basketball program as three Titans received a bounty of All-Big West honors on Monday morning.
Raina Perez was named 2019-20 Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Year, as well as First Team All-Big West. Perez, who leads the league in scoring with a 20.3 points per game average, was the first Titan to receive Player of the Year honors since Genia Miller in 1990-91. Perez was also the 11th Titan to be named to the all-conference first team. Daeja Smith was last named to the first team in 2018-19.
Taylor Turney was selected Second Team All-Big West in her first season with the Titans. Turney sat out last season per NCAA rules after transferring from San Jose State. Turney is in the Big West top-ten in scoring, assists and field goal percentage.
Carolyn Gill received two honors: She was selected to the Big West's All-Defensive Team, and was named Best Hustle Player. Gill is a versatile player for the Titans. She can play the wing or post, and leads the team in rebounding, and is a defensive stopper.
All three Titans are juniors, which certainly bodes well for next season.
Cal State Fullerton will open the Big West Tournament on Tuesday, March 10 at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach at 8:30 p.m. when they will face CSUN. All games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
