Titans Set for Final Non-Conference Road Game

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's basketball will play their final non-conference road game as they head to Orem, Utah for a game against the Wolverines of Utah Valley University.

QUICK HITS
• Cal State Fullerton is coming off their second consecutive win on Tuesday night defeating UTSA 55-46.
• The team finished 2-4 for the month of November with wins against Santa Clara and Portland.
• The Titans have missed out on the Big West Conference Tournament the last two seasons.
• Head Coach Jeff Harada is his first season with the Titans after coaching for three years at Central Washington University.

 

OPPONENT AND HISTORY 
UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY
12 p.m. PT | Saturday, Dec. 23 | UCCU Center
This will be the third time Fullerton and Utah Valley face each other in program history and first matchup since 2007. The Titans are 1-1 in the two previous matchups with the loss coming on the road in Orem.

UVU NOTES
• The Wolverines are 5-7 this season and coming off an 89-70 win over Cal Poly on Tuesday.
• As a team, they are averaging 59.1 points per game and allowing 67.8 ppg. They are shooting 36.6% from the field and 32.5% from beyond the arc.
• The team is led by a new coaching staff headed by Kristen Holt. Holt served as the associate head coach the past four seasons.
• UVU only has two players averaging double-figures as Taylor Christensen averages 16.9 ppg and Mariah Seals brings in 13.5 ppg. Christensen is also the team's leading rebounder averaging 4.6 rpg.
• Seals currently has four 20-point games on the year including 26 against Cal Poly, while Christenson has one against Utah State

 

NOVEMBER RECAP
The Titans finished the first month of the season 2-4 with wins against Santa Clara and Portland. They were 1-1 at Titan Gym and 1-3 on the road. Three of the four losses were by double-digits, but the loss against SDSU was by a single point after the Aztecs made a layup with five seconds left. They will play seven games in December, three of them being at home.

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE
The Titans currently rank second in the Big West in fewest points allowed only allowing opponents 64.5 points per game. They have only given up 75+ points three times in ten games and have held their opponents to 60 points or less four different times.

DAEJA-VU
Junior center Daeja Smith looks as she did last year with seven consecutive double-figure scoring games including a season-high 19 points against Idaho. She currently leads the team with 11.7 ppg and 9.6 rpg. Her 9.6 rebounds per game ranks second in the Big West. She recorded her fifth double-double of the season against UTSA on Tuesday.

THOMPSON FOR THREE
Junior transfer Hannah Thompson currently ranks first in the Big West in three-point field goals this season. She's averaging 2 per game and has a total of 22 three's to lead all shooters.

THE 500-400 CLUB
Junior Daeja Smith hit 500 points for her career this season in the game against Denver on Nov. 27. Smith reached 400 career rebounds in the Dec. 1 game against Montana. She is just the 27th Titan to join the 500-400 rebound club and first since 2013. 

600 AND COUNTING
Junior Jade Vega hit 500 career points earlier this season and continues to climb past milestones. Her 16 point-point performance against UTSA gave her 614 points for her career.
