Johnson Records First Career Double-Double in 52-79 Loss at CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Dhanyel Johnson recorded her first career double-double and matched a career-high in points with a 15 point, 11 rebound effort in the 52-79 loss to Cal State Northridge at the Matadome on Saturday afternoon.

The Titans (2-19, 0-7 BWC) recorded a season-low nine turnovers yet surrendered 51 rebounds and 32 field goals in the loss to CSUN.

Madison Crawford and Johnson both received their second straight starts while Crawford set a new career-high with her six-point effort tonight.

The Matadors got off to a quick start, opening up the game on an 11-0 run to leave the Titans to play catch-up early.

Michelle Berry answered back for the Titans with seven points to cut the deficit, yet CSUN outshot the Titans by 15% to end the first quarter leading the Titans 27-13.

Fullerton started the first quarter giving up an 11-point run to increase the Matador lead by 25 until Dhanyel Johnson tacked on six-points for the Titans.

The Titans continued to cut the deficit throughout the second quarter yet still ended the half trailing CSUN 28-50.

Johnson led the pack with eight points in the first half while pulling down three rebounds for the Titans.

The Matadors opened up the second half just like they did the first, holding the Titans scoreless for the first five minutes and going on a 13-point run to give the Matadors their largest lead of the game at 35.

Fullerton came back to score 11 in the frame with Johnson reaching double-digit points in the third quarter, yet the Titans trailed 39-67 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Berry reached her 14th double-digit game in the fourth quarter yet it wasn't enough as the Titans dropped their 19th straight game at CSUN, 52-79.

Fullerton returns to action as they head north to take on UC Santa Barbara on at the Thunderdome on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

NOTES: The 50 points given up by the Titans in the first half is the most Fullerton has allowed in the first half since they gave up 53 against Montana on Dec. 6…. The 19-game losing streak matches the school single-season record when the Titans lost 19 straight during the 2000-2001 season….
